Katherine Jenkins Abandons Concert For Soldiers In Afghanistan

What Happened To Singing For The Soldiers?

Opera star Katherine Jenkins has been forced to scrap plans to stage a morale-boosting concert for soldiers stationed in Afghanistan.

The singer had previously agreed to perform for troops in the Middle East in 2010, but the gig was cancelled at the last minute when her flight was grounded due to heavy snow.

She has continued to show her support for the armed forces and performed a surprise show in November to celebrate a group of soldiers' return from Afghanistan, but her hopes of rescheduling her trip to the war-torn country have been dashed now that she has signed up to compete on the upcoming season of America's Dancing with the Stars.

In a post on Twitter.com on Tuesday, she writes: "Sadly we tried again (to get to Afghanistan) but its not going to happen. So sorry not to make it out to you but we really REALLY tried!"

Jenkins will show off her fancy footwork alongside the likes of soul legend Gladys Knight, actress Melissa Gilbert, retired tennis champ Martina Navratilova and singer Gavin DeGraw when Dancing with the Stars returns for its 14th series on 19 March.
