David Cameron 'Probably Rode Rebekah Brooks's Horse'

Cameron Horse

David Cameron "probably" rode a horse which was lent by police to former News of the World editor Rebekah Brooks, his spokeswoman said today.

The news is a dramatic backtrack from the PM’s earlier insistence he had never ridden the nag, named Raisa, in question.

Asked about the connection in an interview with Channel 5 News today, Mr Cameron said: "It's a matter of record that I have been riding with Rebekah Brooks' husband, Charlie Brooks.

"He is a friend of mine for 30 years standing and a neighbour in my constituency. But since I have been Prime Minister I think I have been on a horse once and it wasn't that one."

But this afternoon his spokeswoman revealed his mount may well have been Raisa, the ex-Scotland Yard horse that was stabled at the Brooks's Cotswolds home from 2008-10, and who has since sadly passed away.

She told the Telegraph: "It is possible. He used a number of Charlie's horses."

However Mr Cameron had "no recollection" of ever having ridden with the ex-tabloid editor herself and had not ridden with Mr Brooks since entering 10 Downing Street, she insisted.

She declined to disclose the identity of the horse to which Mr Cameron has admitted riding since sweeping to power with Nick Clegg.

Twitter users have been milking the equestrian theme for all its worth. Here are some of our favourite quips.

Cameron probably rode Charlie Brook's horse. Probably went to the pub with him. Probably went to the pictures with him. Probably played cricket with him. Probably went to the same hairdressers?
So who cares except a bigot with an equivalent IQ who has no idea regarding the malignant depths politicians or the tabloid scribes will go to malign an innocent situation.

People on here make me laugh when they talk about Labour. I would rather have Labour back any day of the week than this buffoon in power. Cleggy is finished and he is just hanging on as he will never ever have another opportunity and neither will the Libs. We may have had 13 years of Labour, but my God, in just two years of the Cons, they have shown the direction that we are heading and it is right down the pan. What a horrible man Cameron is and never ever should anyone trust a Tory. Shame on all who support this mishmash party. I'm waiting for surgery and it is going to be a long wait, thanks to cameron and his Con party.

just more lies and back tracking when caught out .. what do you expect from them ? the pattern should be clear by now ...
11:21 PM on 03/02/2012
Not quite up to the pattern established by the last regime ... let's bomb Iraq because we think they have WMDs ...
07:10 AM on 03/03/2012
OMG is that the best you got ? going back years to drag up something from the past to make this goverment look a bit better ? whats done is done . We all need to focus on now and try to fix it. before this country go totally down the toilet ..

Lets see all he did was ride a horse that had been lent to a woman that has been arrested by the very same people that own the horse, You couldn't make it up!
10:52 PM on 03/02/2012

covkid.
why?do we read this claptrap is anybody going to change their mind or opinion in this age of self opinionated selfish society full of political, excreta ,the lib dems at least have stopped much of the thatcherite extremes and no doubt they are the only party not up-themselves in self-interest,and if the cons continue to exploit the democratic majority of tolerant voters it will be left to liberal underdogs to force an election hopefully supported by common sense from the electorate.
