The Scottish Labour leader has described Eric Joyce as unfit to stand again for the party

The Scottish Labour leader has described Eric Joyce as unfit to stand again for the party, following allegations of an inappropriate relationship.

It follows a report in the Daily Record newspaper today alleging that the Falkirk MP formed a relationship with a 17-year-old girl who helped during his General Election campaign in 2010.

Johann Lamont, who is in charge of Labour MPs north of the border, said the 51-year-old had abused his position of power.

Joyce is also due in court next week charged with three counts of common assault following a fight in the Strangers Bar in the House of Commons on February 22.

Lamont said today: "If these reports are true, this sounds like a man who has abused a position of power and authority. I am disgusted. Regardless of other issues, I believe this makes him unfit to stand for Labour."

Joyce has denied the allegations that he had an affair. Speaking to the Evening Standard he said the story was "not true" and that he was taking legal advice.

“I do know Meg and she did work for me during the election," he said. But he denied having a sexual relationship with her and said he had not seen her since the election.

A Scottish Labour Party spokesman said: "Eric Joyce was immediately suspended from the Labour Party when serious criminal charges were brought against him last week, so processes have already started.

"That case is now sub-judice but Eric Joyce remains suspended. These separate revelations are highly disturbing and Johann has made her position very clear."

Labour suspended Joyce from the party pending the results of the police investigation into the Commons incident, though he remains an MP.

Joyce, MP for Falkirk since December 2000, served in the Army Education Corps before pursuing a career in politics.

John Prescott had his bit on the side and it never did him any harm.

So how much of a 'termination bonus' does he get if he resigned ? Not as much as Huhne, I presume.
20:08 on 01/03/2012
What does 'formed a relationship' mean exactly? Why has it taken two years for the story to be told? Sounds like a stitch-up to me. If John Prescott can get away with fighting, why can't he?

The tories at it again, for them any lie will do as they know that mud sticks. It does show how disgusting that party of pocket fillers is.

Not unusual really. Girls mature early and have so much sex shoved at them on TV what
do we expect. Has she made an allegation?

Why the fuss.
Check out Chris Woodhead, the ex -Chief Inspector of Schools. When he was teaching he allegedly had a 'relationship' with a sixth-former. This did no harm to his career. These days, of course, he would have been sacked from his teaching job and thus would never have reached the dizzy heights of Chief Inspector.

However, there is absolutely nothing illegal about what is alleged here no matter how distasteful it may seem.

depends how long it had been going on - if since before she was 16 then technically he is a nonse

Looks like 'They' are out to get him now. A sex scandal, true or not, will usually do the job in finishing a public career. As Karen Dunbar said, "I smell........SH*#E!"

I did not have sex with that woman..............now where have I heard that before?

God has decided otherwise.

People don't seem to realise that 16 is the age of consent but under 18 in the eyes of the law is by definition a child. So can someone please explain to me where the two meet? it makes a nonsense of the word consent, as it implies that 16 is the age of which an individual can legally consent to sexual intercourse.

What a waste of space, can it get any worse, should be removed from the House of Commons payroll with immediate effect.
19:51 on 01/03/2012
Really? Oh silly me, of course, our mediaocracy decides. Guilty until proved innocent!

Hope Scotland gets full independence, so we can ship all the scots back across the border, and build Hadrian's Wall high enough to keep them in. See how long Scotland lasts without the english taxpayers money.

Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont said last night: “This is a man who has abused his position of power and authority.
Meaning- he has no chance of getting away with assaulting someone in a house of commons bar. He may as well have a bit more mud slung at him before the trial. Lets ensure he has no chance of representing the Labour party again- (He is too much like a Tory)

Your ability to reason is begining to show. Have you actually read anything about this man?

My ability to reason suggests your question is linked to a political alliance.
I do read, and read into comments as well!

He can't read anything into his labour mind

But he denied having a sexual relationship with her and said he had not seen her since the election.................. i thought the last word had an "r" in it not a "l"
