Monkees heartthrob Davy Jones was in his stable surrounded by his beloved horses when he suffered a heart attack and died, it emerged.

The star's spokeswoman, Helen Kensick, said British-born Jones spent his final days surrounded by family and riding horses before his sudden death in West Palm Beach, Florida.

His funeral in Florida will be private but Ms Kensick said public services to honour Jones will be held in New York and in England, though the details have not been finalised.

Manchester-born Jones, 66, rocketed to stardom in the 1960s as a member of The Monkees.

Though their television show lasted just two years and the group ultimately broke up, they have endured with such chart-topping hits as I'm A Believer and Daydream Believer.

Shall miss people like you Davy, and could one of your kind horses give me a tip for the Cheltenham Gold Cup? I know you are up there with Ena Sharples. Happy days on The Street.

This report says he died in West Palm Beach, but I've read it's a smaller town called Indiantown, FL. Of course possibly he was transported to the hospital in West Palm. ???
He was a vegan, in seemingly good physical health,...meaning active and not just sitting around.
Dies of a massive heart attack. I read that they put him in a pickup to speed up getting him to the hospital. Maybe they should have waited to get EMT's on site. CPR and their expertese, difibulator might have saved him. Sometimes though everything they do can't revive a person.

Everything I've read about David Jones says he was a pretty good guy.
RIP!!

As sad as it is to lose Davy way too early, his passing is how I hope everyone could go, surrounded by the people and things they loved, and fast.
Sweet memories of a fun youth, Davy. Thank-you for that.

Such a little guy he could have been a jockey. Heard rumors his third wife used to knock him about.

I know from experience that sudden death of a loved one is shocking and difficult to accept, but for the person who died, passing like that, suddenly, without any long term suffering, surrounded by the people and animals you love, while doing what you love -- THAT is a great gift. RIP.

After his heart attack, his condition definately was Stable! Seriously, I loved the Monkees and it's sad that he has gone but we all go in the end. At least he (or his family) didn't have to endure a long suffering illness.

Can't believe how depressed I am over this. I grew up with the Monkees. Makes you realize, fame fortune and life are fleeting. RIP Davy, and thanks for the memories!

We are all told to do this and that to keep our hearts healthy and live longer? Long enough to end our days suffering from a form of Cancer? After 60 just live life to the full and go out with a bang (heart attack?).

his was real music with words, not like todays brain damaging continuous banging garbage
