If current rumours doing the rounds are true, then there could be a VERY well dressed new baby on the block! The Mail on Sunday reports that the civil partner of TV's Queen of Shops, Mary Portas, is pregnant!
Melanie Rickey, 38, reportedly had IVF treatment to conceive, and the baby is her first. Melanie is editor-at-large at Grazia magazine, and has been in a civil partnership with Mary since 2010. Mary, 51, was previously married to Graham Portas, with whom she has two children, Mylo, 18 and Verity, 16.
The pregnancy rumours began when a fashion supplement published by The Times referred to Melanie as a 'soon-to-be-mum' in a feature about London Fashion week.
Friends of the couple told the Mail: "Everyone's really pleased for Mel, she has wanted kids for a long time. She and Mary are really happy together. We're all delighted."
Mary recently spoke to the Evening Standard about falling in love with Melanie, saying:
"I fell in love with a woman and I had to think about what I was prioritising. I thought that for once I was going to make sure that I was totally and utterly happy and therefore I was going to make it work." She said Melanie gives 'complete love to the world'.
So far, Mary and her PR firm Yellowdoor have declined to comment on the pregnancy rumours, but if it's true, what wonderful news!
