'Disturbing' Scissor Burglar Broke Into Home And Watched Porn

A burglar who broke into a sleeping couple's home, watched porn and then made his way to their bedroom armed with scissors has been described by detectives as "a disturbing individual".

Stephen Andrew Sillittoe was jailed last week for two counts of trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence and possession of a pointed article, Northumbria Police said.

A force spokesman said the 19-year-old, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday to serve a minimum of two and a half years.

Sillittoe was arrested and charged after an incident in North Road, Berwick, Northumberland, on Friday 26 August.

He broke into a house and viewed pornographic images on the owners' computer before making his way to the bedroom where they were asleep.

They woke up to find Sillittoe at the bedroom door, wearing latex gloves and with a pair of scissors in his hand. When they challenged him he fled the house.

Officers arrested him as he was fleeing Berwick and in December he admitted all three charges.

Detective Constable Alan Bogle, of Berwick CID, said: "This was an extremely bizarre, unusual and disturbing offence for detectives to investigate and it's the first incident of its kind officers here have ever had to deal with.

"Sillittoe is a disturbing individual who has shown no remorse for his actions and will now serve a custodial sentence for what he has done.

"The victims showed great composure at the time of the offence and throughout the investigation.

"When it happened they were able to provide an accurate description of Sillittoe and this proved a vital part in helping officers identify and apprehend him.

"Sillittoe has no ties to the area and, following good work by local officers, he was arrested as he was leaving Berwick. We are pleased with the verdict."

wouldn't it have been a lot easier just to ask if he could borrow the porn dvd?

Two and a half years, not counting remission then he will be free to do the same again.

Hi Kraptonfactor. The minimum of two and a half years will be less the time spent on remand (the Police don't normally let no-fixed-abode people have bail.) I suspect that he could still get a discount of 50% for good behaviour. Doing the sums makes two and a half years into one and a quarter years and if he's been on remand for a couple of months he could be out in little more than a year. I'm surprised that he wasn't charged with "stealing electricity" as laptops don't run on fresh air! In the old days phone "phreakers" were charged with stealing electricity but that's another story.

I have never heard the phrase 'phone phreakers', do you have time to explain? I'm curious.

How did the burglar log on to their computer - as a 'Guest' perhaps?!

Their goods would have been down the pron shop if they hadn't caught him..

Looks like the police are on the ball up in Berwick. Down south they claim that when I get burgled it is my own fault for having things. One burglar who jemmied my kitchen window legged it when challenged and at the police ID parade (now done on a laptop) they said that I picked the wrong bloke! Nett result nothing done and the crime swept under the carpet. Crime FIGURES are falling, Oh what a surprise. The moral of the tale is that if a burglar gets into your home down here the onus is on YOU to arrest him. It would appear that the old coppers down here just want to drink tea and in actual fact the PCSOs (women) seem to be far more efficient. It was a PCSO who caught the tool thief who had burgled my garage. To my chagrin he was let off with a caution! Time to move to Berwick?

I notice porn gets the blame again. I wonder what would have been said if he had put on Only fools and horses on the tv?

"National Treasure David Jason Halts Burglary"?

It's not being blamed for anything; the burglar appears to have watched it in the house of his victims! Do you not find that disturbing and/or disgusting? I would be bad enough if I found a bloke wandering around my living room nicking the TV let alone watching blue movies on it!

Poirot has a counterpart in Berwick if they caught him so quickly.

There has also been a knitting-needle burglar who police think might be working to a pattern.

I'm sorry I know this is serious but I just had to laugh at "with intent to commit a sexual offence and possession of a pointed article".

The owner should be arrested also for having pornographic images on his computer - sounds like another pervert to me.
