Four-Year Old Murdered: Police Given More Time To Question Suspects

Detectives investigating the death of a four-year-old boy have been granted extra time to quiz the child's mother and her partner on suspicion of his murder.

The child, who has not been named, died of a head wound after being found unconscious at his home in the Holbrooks area of Coventry on Saturday.

A West Midlands force spokesman said magistrates had issued a warrant of further detention for the man, 32, and woman, 26, who were arrested on Monday.

The boy, who was identified by sources as the son of the woman arrested, was found not breathing in the early hours by officers.

A forensic post-mortem examination which took place on Tuesday revealed that he died as a result of a head injury.

Police now have until tomorrow afternoon to question the couple.

The spokesman added: "Detectives from the force's public protection unit are working closely with the local authority as the investigation progresses and support is being offered to the boy's family."
