Police Divers Search Canal For Missing Body Parts

Police divers are carrying out more searches to find the rest of what is believed to be the body of missing EastEnders actress Gemma McCluskie.

The news comes after the discovery of a female torso in Regent's Canal, Hackney, near Broadway Market. According to the Press Association the unclothed body's arms, legs and head had been hacked off before it was found floating in the waterway.

In a statement Scotland Yard appealed for information and said they believed they knew the identity of the body - but were waiting for "further forensic tests" before formally identifying it.

"The torso was recovered by divers from the MPS Marine Support Unit and additional searches are due to be carried out in the water."

On Wednesday a man, reported to be Gemma McCluskie's brother by the BBC and Sky, was arrested after police found the body. Met Police have said they cannot confirm or deny the report.

Gemma McCluskie, 29, who is 4ft 11in tall with dark hair, was last seen on Thursday, 1 March in Bethnal Green.

She played Kerry Skinner in 30 episodes of EastEnders in 2001 and also appeared in children's TV programme North and South.
