Russell Brand

Russell Brand is set to host his own topical TV show in the US.

Strangely Uplifting will see the Arthur and Get Him To The Greek funnyman air his views on current affairs and popular culture, The Sun reports.

The show, seen as a competitor to Jon Stewart's hugely successful The Daily Show, will also be broadcast in the UK on the Sky Atlantic channel.

Russell - who split from pop star wife Katy Perry in December - will soon be seen on the big screen alongside Tom Cruise in musical comedy Rock Of Ages.

He will also star in Michael Bay's new fantasy movie The Hauntrepreneur.

Brands is smart, but does he know enough to out argue US commentators and pundits? Its different than in the UK; in the US pundits dont argue and defend positions, they tend to state opinion to like minded interviewers. Very little proper debate takes place.

Even if Brand knows more than Ive given him credit for, then being English he'll come off as smug and self satisfied. The US political scene does need de-constructing and its rank absurdities pointed out, but the audience wont take that from an Englishman.

It seems like Russell is saying yes to every gig he's offered, regardless of quality. And his publicity team arent doing him any favours by comparing him to Jon Stewart.

If they wanted a rival to "The Daily Show," shouldn't they have gotten a host who was, y'know, funny?

A rival to TDS? Please. Don't get me wrong, it could be a fairly decent, amusing show. But Brand can't hold a candle to the sharply intelligent wit of Jon Stewart & Co.

Thank God he`s not hosting here. If Katy Perry is anything to go by, it won`t take the American audiences too long to figure out just how unfunny and tedious he really is.

Article says it will air in U.S., but doesn't specify what channel... my bet is "The Tedium Channel."

No, don't go up against Stewart, you'll be absolutely trounced. There's enough room in the world for more political satire, and there's other time slots to take up.

Agreed. Jon doesn't have anything to worry about.

In the US. Thank goodness, was worried there for a minute.

Hope not I cannot see Jon stewart trying to be Russell Brand, but if you have ever read some thing that been printed by R Brand, you will find that he knows what is happening in the world of to day, yes even with out KP help.
He is no fool, it takes a cleaver man to play the fool, but the fool, to try to play the cleaver man
