Professional skier Chemmy Alcott sloped off Dancing On Ice as she was voted out of the contest ahead of the semi-finals.

The sportswoman's run of success came to an end following a circus-themed performance which saw Chemmy, dressed in a sparkly silver leotard and top hat, praised for her "really powerful, really strong and really fluid" routine.

But it was not enough to save her.

Her departure - following a contest which saw skaters take to the ice with an array of circus props - came after a nail-biting skate-off against X Factor flop Chico.

Only last week, Chemmy had faced a similar fight for survival.

But while she and partner Sean Rice were able to see off competition from Coronation Street star Andy Whyment, the duo were finally defeated by Chico and Jodeyne Higgins.

The pair smiled broadly as they were presented with bright bouquets of flowers, signalling the end of their run on the ITV1 show.

Earlier, Judge Louie Spence told Chemmy her skills had "come on so much" adding: "It was a great performance, well done."

Robin Cousins also commended her efforts, telling the skater her appearance was "fun, full and fabulous".

Remaining in the competition, along with Chico, are former Brookside actress Jennifer Ellison, Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter and Emmerdale's Matthew Wolfenden.

I thought Chemmy had it easy , her and Georgie had the easiest props .Infact I wouldnt even call them props , they seem to have gone smaller since the start of the show , like the table ,broom walking stick , and even the umbrella .Chico was brilliant last night , and the right result for him , as for Georgie not a fan .

I think the show has run its course , and we should have a man and a woman winner .Its much easier for the women , they get thrown around , and the men have to learn lifts as well as skating .Its all a bit one sided , as for the new judge , she favours the girls all the time .Yes Goergies was easy and boring last night , and having to listen to Chris defend her programme was terrible , just tell it how it is , she bored us . Plus she is so small , and so easy to throw around , its very unfair to judge others .

This show is such a fix it so blatently obvious. You know before the skate off who will go as it is always boy, girl, boy, girl!!! Doesn't matter about talent.

I watched the programme last night "Dancing on Ice" and I thought that Chemmy and his partner danced much better than Chico and his partner. Only one judge agreed with me.

Both of them shouldn't have been in the skate off it should have been Jorgi, she only had one prop and although she was good with it, wasn't as good as the rest with all their props and in the skate off I think Chico was the best, but it was a close call.

I agree it was a close call but Chemmy I thought had the edge on Chico. We beg to differ never mind.
