Ruby Wax Hits Out At 'Grotesque' And 'Abhorrent' 'Loose Women'

Comedienne Ruby Wax is not known for mincing her words, and the Loose Women have just felt the sharp end of her tongue.

The US star has unleashed a tirade against the lunchtime chat show, labelling the programme "abhorrent" and its hosts "grotesque", claiming they are obsessed with their toyboys.

She told The People: "That show is abhorrent. All the presenters do is go on about their toyboys like old cronies and I am like: 'You are grotesque.' I'’m sorry, but it is."

Her rant comes after 53-year-old Denise Welch recently went public with new love 39-year-old Lincoln Townley, after splitting with her husband Tim Healy.

Fellow panelist Carol McGiffin, 52, is also engaged to a man 22 years younger than her.

Ruby's rage for the ITV1 show didn't stop there as she called for more intelligent women to be on the box.

"Panel shows these days are so aggressive," she said. "To me, they are an extension of men peeing and seeing who can last the longest."

Are Ruby's comments about 'Loose Women' right?

Ruby's comments will do little to help the mounting tension on the show, as it has emerged former journalist Janet Street Porter and Denise will not sit on the panel together because of a personality clash.

"Janet considers herself to be a feminist intellectual while Denise is a salt-of-the-earth northern lass who really enjoys letting her hair down. They have got absolutely nothing in common and would rather have nothing to do with each other," a source told The Mirror.

It was also reported over the weekend, that Denise's ex husband has also found a new love, after announcing their separation last month.

According to The People, Denise was overheard telling friends at a party: "Tim's got a new girlfriend. We talk all the time. He is very happy and the kids are absolutely fine."

This reinforces the saying that when there are 3 women chatting it fails to break up because the first one to leave won't as the remaining 2 would be bitching about her. When they were shootng Charlies Angels, none of the 3 actresses would come out of their trailer because of the fear that the last one out would be making an "entrance". Such is the plight of women. In this instance Ruby Wax is simple peeved as with all this shortage of presenters, she was not called in, probably because her comic banter is rubbish and makes most audiences cringe.

Where have you heard this saying? It's a new one on me.

they do discuss intelligent issues and give their views from the experience of an older woman and just women in general... I do think the discussions can get a little crass, but sex is still a part of your life no matter what age you get too some women are just more up front about it.

They discuss relationships and give advice despite the fact that most of them have failed at their own marriages. Sorry but even though they are older women they obviously are in no position to give advice to anyone. To cap it all they are the most sexist group on TV, if a panel of men were to berate the opposite sex in the same way the show would have been axed following a mass of complaints. Get rid of this sexist tripe.

Hi, I am afriad I cannot agree with your "they discuss intelligent issues" (what is her name Sheri - the one who was in Coronation Street - gosh what an irritating person wh odoes not have to work too hard to come across as stupid!) it always comes down to sex and more than a little crass - nearly all of them have had abortions, heaven knows how many lovers between them, sometimes not even knowing their names, falling out of Clubs after too much drink - I know, I know, I should just turn the TV off!!

Funnily enough, Ruby Wax always struck me as grotesque and abhorrent. I don't watch Loose Women because they sound like a bunch of shrieking fishwives...and I really can't handle that amount of cackling at any time of day! But I kind of get why they are popular. And I have no problem at all with women dating whoever the hell they want. Ruby could end her suffering if she simply stopped watching?

I hate the Loose Women show, I find that they can be extremely sexist towards men despite the fact that when there's a young attractive man on it they can't control their flirting.

Couldn't have put it better myself, replace the panel with a pack of barking dogs and nobody would notice the difference.

Sorry that should have been nightmare, or worse

The whole show is a mightmare

Why doesn't anyone call a younger woman with an older man a "toy girl"? If these 50 somethings can hook a younger man, good luck to them. A ten year difference in an adult partnership isn't that odd. A twenty year can work too. Age is in the mind.

Can't believe so many people have nothing better to do than watch daytime tv!
18:35 on 13/03/2012
They have sad, sad lives. (Although some may be disabled or housebound.....)
22:46 on 13/03/2012
Why do you assume that all daytime tv is rubbish? The Indian Doctor couple of weeks ago was superb, as is Missing, Moving On, The Wright Stufff, Deal or No Deal, er 1 o'clock news etc. Yes, I go out and do other things as well. I'm certainly not sad.

Hi Cassandra666.
Your right, some may be disabled or housebound, but Denise Welch and JSP, surely if they have to there is something more interesting?

Interesting use of language there. "Salt-of-the-earth Northern lass" versus "feminist intellectual". I wonder who people are supposed to root for in this little disagreement.

Poor Ruby, she can't accept other women topping the ratings, as she drift into obscurity on her generous wrinkled bottom. She is a little past her sell by date. I'm sure she would happily share a regular seat at the table, if there was one wide enough; you would need wide screen TV to fit her head . And what about her voice? Absolute torture, like listening to a crow with a Yankee accent. As the saying goes "over weight, over paid, and over 'ere. Well, something like that.
11:13 on 13/03/2012
Oh well !
This has given the show more publicity so more people will wnat to watch now.
Remember folkks there is nothing like BAD publicity to get your face on TV and in the tabloids.
