Ed Miliband Football Match

Ed Miliband was spotted at a football match this weekend just three hours after he was due to give a speech that he cancelled due to illness.

The Labour leader was set to speak to health professionals and union activists at a planned protest against NHS reforms in Hull, east Yorkshire, at noon on Saturday.

Mr Miliband cancelled his appearance on Friday, complaining of illness. He was spotted the next day attending the Championship clash between Hull City and Ipswich Town, which kicked off at 3pm.

As this snap from the match shows, the Labour leader wasn't exactly coy about his attendance...

A Labour spokesman said today: "Ed was ill on Friday so his appearance at the NHS rally was cancelled because we weren't sure he would be able to attend. He travelled to Yorkshire as soon as he was well enough to do so on Saturday."

Mr Miliband had been due to address crowds in Queen Victoria Square as part of his party's Drop The Bill campaign against the Government's NHS reforms.

Campaigners are calling on the coalition to scrap the controversial health Bill, which has met widespread opposition by health professionals.

Mr Miliband was pictured at the KC Stadium alongside Hull City chairman Assem Allam, whose team drew the match 2-2.
The opposition leader normally counts himself a fan of Hull City's Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.

Asked about the matter at a press conference on Monday, Mr Miliband said: "I was not well on Friday so we said I wasn't going to be at the rally. The rally was then cancelled.

"I kept a long-standing engagement on the Saturday."

Nero fiddled as Rome burned. Our opposition leader watches footy as the Tories destroy the health service. The only difference between these two statements is no-one will remember Ed's name in future, just that he alongside the politicals of the past generation destroyed everything for this countries people in their quest for elitist values.

If Miliband threw a Sicky to get out of what was essentially work!! Something he is paid to do as a minister, then he ought to be fired. Why? Because it is very similer to claiming disability allowance and then been photographed at Alton Towers on a roller coaster? Your getting paid to do a job, you call in sick and then are photographed at a football match. We had a Agency worker turn up once to drive a class two truck and do deliveries. He said, can I finish at 1pm as the afternoon match is on TV and I dont want to miss it? No we said you finish when the job is done. He drove the truck out, took it home and sat in for the rest of the day and watched TV. He brought the truck back at 5.30pm after the match with everything still on board. He said everyone was out so he couldnt deliver. He never worked for us again. Miliband, if he pulled a sicky to get out of work so he could do a leisure activity and is caught, he should face the chop. Hypocryte.

What a bunch of hypocrites! Like nobody ever pulled a sicky ( that's if he wasn't ill, because weirdly enough people recover from illnesses) luckily due to our NHS that we are just about clinging on to by the skin of our teeth. I don't think Ed going to a football match one day is going to stop Cameron and his fat cats taking over the NHS and proceeding with his vindictive motives. I'm sure even politicians are entitled to a life. It seems that everything politicians do outside work life is reflecting on them as a leader, sorry to point out the obvious the press twist things too.

i'm not quite sure what the story is here.....it seems to me, that ed miliband went to a football match....and the day before this, he was ill....yes, he was ill, the day before he went (or came if your an abba fan) to this football match......this leads me to believe, and i'm not a doctor or in any way involved with nursing the sick, that he must have recovered.

It's long been the case that you can only be sick Monday-Friday between 9 and 5 - you ever tried seeing one of those overpaid underworked doctors out of 'hours'?

IT's OK Leeds were playing at Middlebrough on Sunday. Not that far away from Hull- so he was probably able to take in that match as well!
Remember- The England manager's job is still undecided- Who knows if Ed has applied or not?

Let him without sin cast the first stone,Do you know it must be great to be perfect.{ no i would never throw a sickie and go out and enjoy myself}
17:46 on 12/03/2012
Any employed person who threw a sickie and was then seen by their boss at a football game could..and probably would... be sacked. Typical double standards of a politician.
17:13 on 12/03/2012
Well he is better off doing that because he is bloody useless as the Labour Party spokesman. He is that poor he makes Cameron look brilliant

I agree that Labour needs leadership'...But I wouldn't quite go that far'..CaMoron' is just a Jack the Lad'. Eton Toff''..who oils his way into peoples favours'.Unless you like someone who ducks simple question' and blames everyone else but themselves'I agree'..That cuts' accross all party lines'..But Daves' turned it into an art-form'.Hardly the set model for a prime minister'..Not even Cloggy' could make that idiot look good..
16:56 on 12/03/2012
Just shows where his priority lies even when he is fully in the pockets of the unions who put and keep him in position. Happy to take their shilling when it suits but always happy to take the easy way out. Hypercrite.

Calm down. He's allowed Saturday of isn't he. Mind you, he could have picked a decent game to go too.
