A woman left disfigured after her ex-lover sprayed her in the face with acid has faced her attacker in a Brussels court.

Patricia Lefranc spent three months in a coma after Richard Remes, 57, threw sulphuric into her face as she stepped out of a lift in 2009.

Lefranc, who has endured 86 operations since the attack, insisted on being in court as Remes faces charges of attempted murder.

The 48-year-old, who lost the sight in her left eye and hearing in one ear, said she is “determined to look him in the eye and show the jury what he has done to me.”

More than two years on since the attack, the acid is continuing to affect Lefranc’s skin. Her nose is slowly being eaten away and will soon need to be replaced with a prosthetic.

She told the Daily Mail: “'I hope Remes is convicted of attempted murder, and not just for assault and battery with torture. He did not just want to hurt me, he wanted me out of the way. I just hope that I get to tell the court what I experienced, and how it hurt.”

Remes has apologised for the attack but denies he tried to maim her, claiming he did not realise the acid would have such a devastating effect.

Just wish after being convicted the punishment was fitting.. Unfortunately even if convicted his prison sentence will most likely be minor considering the lifetime of pain and suffering he inflicted on her.. what a shame.

Patricia Lefranc, you are an extraordinarily powerful individual. I wish you the best.

Didn't realise it would have a devastating effect? So is he saying he threw Oil of Olay on her?

I agree with her that he should be charged with murder. but as its in Brussels he will get a small sentence and be out in no time at all, same as this country which is governed by Brussels anyway, she should have paid someone to do the same to him, i doubt she will get the justice she deserves, but i truly hope she does, but he might just get a face lift in jail with a bit of luck, see how he likes it.

Yes i stand corrected it should have been attempted murder which as you know it wasnt, i rushed that comment, thanks for pointing it out to me, i hope others will realise that, and i still hope his life in jail is sheer hell on earth, she deserves to hear of his misery from released prisoners, with a bit luck he might kill himself and leave his organs to someone that needs them more than he does as he doesnt deserve to own his.

Have this animal spread eagle and slowly drip acid on his 'mr wonker' it may sting a bit but I could live with the idea he would suffer right to the end of his sick life. This lady is so brave and strong to go through so much treatment, God bless you.

Ignorance is no defence. He needs to rot in prison until he dies.

"he did not realise the acid would have such an effect"
Lets hope than while in prison some of the in mates dont realise that kicking the crap out of someone hurts!

They should throw acid on his face and stick him in a cell to rot.

I was absolutely shocked when I read this. I can't imagine how much pain she must be in. I think this guy should be locked in solitary confinement forever and never allowed to come out or paying for all the plastic surgery that she will require, Last time, I checked anything with chemicals involving acid usually are corrosive and burn human skin.

Patricia is very brave and tough. I admire her to be in the courtroom. He should be left to spend the remainder of his miserable life in jail.

It seems like he's a psychopath, and a particularly failed version of one; I cannot see him being able to manipulate anyone to be comfortable around him in the future.

He has said he is sorry, what more do you want. (Oh yes)
