Survival expert-turned-TV adventurer Bear Grylls has been dumped as the host of the Discovery Channel's hit show Man Vs. Wild.

The Brit's contract has been terminated by executives after he reportedly failed to honour his commitments to the network.

A source tells The Hollywood Reporter: "Due to a continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, Discovery has terminated all current productions with him."

Reports suggest Grylls upset TV bosses when he refused to participate in two mystery projects he was contracted for.

The adventurer's Man Vs. Wild series became an instant hit when it debuted on Discovery in 2006. Grylls also hosted the network's 2010 series Worst-Case Scenario.

Responding to the news, Grylls' representative Heather Krug, tells People.com: "Bear's goal has always been to make life-empowering shows for his many fans around the globe, and he has taken great risks to bring Discovery such award winning programming over seven seasons.

"Unfortunately, Bear and Discovery have not been able to come to mutual agreement on new programming, and he disagrees with Discovery's decision to terminate current productions. Bear has loved the Man Vs. Wild journey and looks forward to producing further cutting edge content again soon for his loyal audience."

I don't see how a guy who loves to share survival tips, and who puts himself and his film crew in harm's way, would agree to "mystery assignments" proposed by the ratings wonks at Discover Channel. Adios, Discover. Bear, hope to see more of your outdoor instructions soon on another outlet.

Bear's survival techniques will eventually get someone killed. I'm glad he's gone. When it comes to survival, he's a joke.

And you know this because of your proven survival expertise? What special forces unit from what country do you serve?

There's only so much sucking on a puddle that a guy can do before the show starts getting jaded.

He spits out the poor insects he pretends to eat out off camera & sleeps in hotel, he's a fraud...bring back Ray Mears!
10:21 PM on 03/16/2012
Ray Mears is terrible...Bear Grylls used to be in the S.A.S, arguably the most Elite fighting force in the world and what did Ray Mears do to protect Great Britain?

Don't throw out disinformation ... it only reflects on your integrity. While the show sets up certain situations in order to demonstrate techniques, what he does is real enough. One must accept the premise that the situation would usually be life threatening and survival would depend on extreme measures. This is not, oh la, let's go out and see if we can get ourselves killed this weekend.
