Boy, Three, Accidentally Kills Himself With Gun In Washington Petrol Station After Being Left Unattended In Car

A three-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself with his parents' gun, after being left unattended in a car while his mother went to buy petrol, the Associated Press has reported.

The mother left the toddler in the car with her boyfriend's four-year-old daughter, who was not injured in the accident, which happened in western Washington, USA.

The boyfriend had tucked the handgun under the front seat, before filling up with petrol. The mother was in the petrol station at the time.

Police investigating the incident have described it as a "tragic accident", the Associated Press reports.

Well I am not going to say Americans should not have the right to arms, but for christ sake they should not just let any idiot have one. Anyone stupid enougth to leave a weapon fully loaded where anyone can find it should not of been qualifed to own a weapon. Is it really that difficult to educate people about gun ownership before throwing guns their way?

" I am just popping to the shops to get some milk " "dom't forget your keys , because I might be in the garden,oh and don't forget your gun" Doesn't sound right does it ? I thought our government passed stupid laws but when you allow everyone to walk around with a gun this sort of thing is always going to be an issue

Parents seemingly negligent as children not merely left inside car but without proper seat belt/harness to restrict movemen. Gun laws ridiculous. Revise that Constitution now.

What sort of IDIOT leaves a loaded gun with the safeties off in a car with a three year old? The American gun laws are stupid and the problem is, they are so busy bleating about their freedom and their right to bear arms that they can't even see its a problem.

I agree.  It should be illegal to leave a loaded gun in a car with unattended children.  He should have taken it with him.

Firearms are legal in the UK. You can own rifles and shotguns. Unfortunately we can't own handguns.

Fundamental difference. Shotguns and firearms and rifles were designed to shoot animals, whether for hunting or protection. Handguns were designed to shoot humans.

There is no legal reason on this earth to be tucking guns under car seats, let alone when there are two children in the car! America - hold your head in shame for yet another death of a child so you can have your 'freedom'! Pathetic!
