George Clooney has been arrested after protesting outside the Sudanese embassy in Washington.

According to reports, the 50-year-old and his fellow activists had arranged to get arrested by standing on private property outside the embassy to bring attention to issues within Sudan.

TMZ claimed Clooney's father, Nick, had also been arrested.

The actor's publicist told TMZ: "They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world."

He was led away from the scene in handcuffs and bundled into the back of a police van

Washington Post reporters tweeted photos of the actor and fellow protesters in the back of a police van.

Clooney, who recently attended the state diner in honour of David Cameron, was in Washington to speak to Barack Obama about the issue of Sudan.

"When the rainy season starts, it is impossible to get through," Clooney told reporters. "There is a very, very great possibility of a lot of people starving in the next few months."

He has been a vocal campaigner on the issue. On Wednesday he accused the Sudanese government of committing "war crimes, and recently returned from an eight-day visit to the country.

An A-List actor is arrested along with a handful of Democratic congressment. What seems to be missing is that they were arrested by the Secret Service. Not relevant you think? Hardly. What do you think happened... they were booked and the service heckled them as they took mug shots or once they got to the Secret Service headquarters they cut the strpas and everyone patted Clooney on the back, thanking him for a job well done and see him in another few weeks at the fundraiser. Which do you think happened? There is a greater picture here that the public cannot see. I could call these false arrests but that wouldn't be quite true. They are more like fake arrests. The mission is Sudan, and there are many reasons why odd bedfellows will join together to get there.

Thank you for the post a comment chance, having posted, It seems quite obvious that any posts which touch on the truth of all this don't even make it, censorship, media control, silly of me to expect anything less, the truth will out.

He is just getting into character for his next movie!

Nice career move George. Not that you needed it.
12:53 on 17/03/2012
Sorry people but I think George was wasting his time. If he wants to be political then let him go down the political route and get himself elected. Ronnie Reaan managed it!!!
President Clooney has got a certain appeal!!!

Please don't exaggerate.. things might be bad but it's not comparable to those in Sudan, you are trivialising what they are going through in comparing your situation with theirs. If you have a computer and you are able to access the internet, you're hardly starving and you shouldn't use such a term because there are millions who are literally starving.

don't exaggerate?we r £BILLIONS of pounds in debt,there is NO money!!!!!!!

Human, as long as it's convenient.

Maybe if you took advantage of the cheap education available to you, your life would improve.
18:55 on 17/03/2012
Please don't wast your time trying to convince people like SMALLMAN SHORT, they have no concept of what is happening in the real world and [very worryingly] even less inclination to see beyond their own noses.

We need more like George to make people sit up and listen to what is really going on.

I am proud of you George.

What gives these so called Hollywood celebrity the right to comment on things that do not concern them. They live in a fantasy world of film making and believe the rest of the world is a fantasy like that. If they feel the need to get involved go and stand on the front line between Sudan and South Sudan and protest, of course they will not do that, because there will not be anybody there to take their photographs. Hypercrites, self seeking, self promoting no marks who contribute nothing to the world but line their own packets on the back of those gullible enough to pay their hard earned to watch Z lister movies.

It's called freedom of speech and democratic principle.

If you don't like him and you don't like his movies, why are you even here? Just for a good moan? I don't think you seem to understand the point... he has made global headlines by what he did, which highlights the issue to millions of people all over the world who were not aware of the crisis in Sudan. That is the power of celebrity used well. FYI, he also gives millions to charity every year and doesn't make a song and dance about it. He is one of the good ones.

and there are so few good ones about, most of them just care about making more money for themselves.
