Serial Bigamist Spared Jail After Cross-Dressing Sleeping Pills Scam

A serial bigamist who fooled a doctor into giving her sleeping pills by dressing as a man was spared a jail sentence today.

Emily Horne, 33, cropped her hair and wore a baggy football shirt and trousers to fool a doctor into believing she was her then partner Craig Hadwin.

At a previous hearing, Horne, of Tucker Street, Wells, Somerset, admitted two charges of fraud by false representation and asked for a further three similar offences to be taken into account.

Horne was listed before Taunton Crown Court as Max Accastes Quiberberon - the name she had adopted by deed poll.

The former glamour model has appeared in court numerous times over her tangled love life.

Horne, who has been diagnosed with a personality disorder, made world headlines with her bigamist lifestyle, appeared in adult movies and was also the subject of a Channel 4 documentary.

Record Jonathan Barnes told Horne that he was not going to send her to prison despite being in breach of a suspended sentence imposed in Manchester in 2009 when she had admitted bigamy.

"You have come terribly, terribly close to be sent to prison. This will be the last chance," the judge told her.

"If you come back before the courts for any further offences of this kind - and I am talking about the obtaining of prescription drugs from the NHS by deception - I do not have the slightest doubt that the judge dealing with you will send you to immediate custody."

The judge imposed a 12-month community order with supervision and a 28-day electronically tagged curfew from 7pm to 7am.

The court heard that Horne - previously jailed for bigamy after never divorcing first husband Paul Rigby - fooled the unsuspecting GP during a face-to-face consultation.

Prosecutor Nigel Askham said Horne had an extensive medical history including an addiction to prescribed painkillers.

He also said that she had a history of using a string of aliases.

In May this year she telephoned the NHS out-of-hours service claiming to be the sister of Craig Hadwin, phoning to say she needed painkillers after being the victim of an assault.

Horne was prescribed two diazepam tablets. She then successfully obtained codeine phosphate tablets by giving the name of Cassy Hadwin.

Following a failed attempt to get drugs from a doctor's surgery in Ilchester, she then made an appointment for her husband to see a GP at the Millbrook Surgery in Castle Cary and received to tablets.

Further painkillers were prescribed when she attended A&E at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton on 11 July giving her name as Cassy Hadwin.

Horne was arrested at her home address on suspicion of fraud and when interviewed at Yeovil police station on 14 November she admitted all the allegations against her.

In December she pleaded guilty at Yeovil Magistrates' Court and was committed to Taunton Crown Court for sentence.

Horne's web of lies started soon after she married her first husband, a soldier, when she was just 18 in December 1996.

Rigby was posted abroad for five years and on his return he found out she had left him for banker Sean Cunningham, and they married in Leeds in February 1999.

But Horne left him for website designer Chris Barrett, and the couple tied the knot in December 2000.

West Yorkshire Police became aware of Horne's serial marriages and cautioned her for two offences of bigamy in 2001.

But a year later she wed again - using her porn star name Amileannya Carmichael to marry rail guard James Matthews in Ipswich - and failed to get her previous marriages annulled.

The police were alerted and she was given a six-month sentence.

But the time behind bars did not deter her from walking down the aisle again and Ashley Baker unwittingly became husband number five in September 2007 at a civil ceremony in Greater Manchester.

But on their way to Scotland for the honeymoon, Horne revealed she was already married - and police were called in.

She claimed she did not know if she was divorced because she no longer had the paper work.

Horne was given a 10-month prison sentence suspended for two years by a judge at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court in July 2009.
