The Queen Crashes Wedding Of John And Frances Canning In Manchester (VIDEO)

A couple today spoke of their delight after the royal seal of approval was given to their wedding.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh met the pair just after they tied the knot yesterday.

During a visit to Manchester Town Hall, the royals were introduced to newlyweds John and Frances Canning, of Prestwich, Greater Manchester, who had booked the venue months ago.

But rather than switching the ceremony date to accommodate the Diamond Jubilee visit, the couple decided to go ahead with their big day.

And to top off a day to remember, the Queen featured in their wedding photographs.

The bride, 44, told The Sun: "The Queen spoke to us by our first names. She said I looked lovely and she wanted to wish us all the best for the future."

Her husband added that he spoke to Prince Philip as photographs were being taken.

"He was a charming fella - for me it was the icing on the cake," he said.

According to the newspaper Mr Canning, 48, jokingly wrote to Buckingham Palace to invite the Queen to the wedding, but received a reply declining the offer.

During her day in Manchester and Salford the Queen visited four hospitals and toured the BBC's new headquarters at MediaCityUK.

at least the Queen didn't invoke "jus primae noctis" rules...

invited, uninvited, surprise visit or crash....i really wouldnt care how they got there.
it would be a thrill, an honour, a moment i'd never forget and loads of fun to have The Queen and Prince Philip at my wedding or the party after it.
also, despite the pressures on them as very public figures, not only are they still together, but they still very obviously love each other dearly.
i would hope their presence would pass some of that magic and longevity on to my marriage :)

I worry about people who don't get the details correct. The Queen and Prince Phillip met the couple AFTER the ceremony. No one "crashed the wedding" or took focus away from their ceremony. However, the wedding was at the Town Hall and the Queen was touring the town as part of her Diamond Jubilee year. The Hall was one of her official stops- weddings or not.

Don't worry about them. This is how they spend their time -- looking for any headline as a way to vent their ever present negativity -- it's how they wake up in the morning. And obviously they don't bother to read past the headline.

What a great surprise on their wedding day.
To have the Queen and Prince in the wedding photos will be a joy to them and their families for many years to come.
The Royal Family, especially the Queen, has been described as stand-offish and not in tune with the emotions of the people of her country. But this shows her to be gracious and pleasant. And they decided to share in this couple's day.
Good publicity.

The Queen does not need permission for anything. I think what she did was great, shows her as a very neat person. Much as the rules of royalty will allow her .

who gave them permission to do that??? it's THERE wedding....What if it was the other way around?

Actually, it's THEIR wedding. Consider investing in a dictionary and some English classes. Since when does the queen need persmission to do something? This was brilliant.

What a majestic, but natural gesture on HMs part. John and Frances Channing certainly had a day to remember.
