'Britain's Got Talent': Jonathan Antoine Reveals Secret Breakdown After Weight Taunts

'BGT' Sensation Reveals Breakdown

After Saturday's SuBo moment on Britain's Got Talent, opera singer Jonathan Antoine has become an overnight star.

But the 17-year-old has revealed he has not always been so confident, telling of how he suffered a breakdown just three months before his show-stopping audition.

Jonathan - who has scored nearly half a million views on YouTube for his rendition of Andrea Bocelli's The Prayer with partner Charlotte Jaconelli - suffered weight jibes at the hands of school bullies.

“Ever since I was quite small I’ve had weight problems and the bullying was related to that. People would be nasty about my weight and say nasty words," he said.

"I sort of had a nervous breakdown back in October. And at that point I left the school I was at. Me and school just don’t get on."

Jonathan also told of how he does not feel pressured into losing weight after the taunts he received.

"Yes [I would like to lose weight] but it would be because I should lose weight to be healthy,’ he said.

"I am the way I am and I always will be - if other people don’t like me, then that’s their choice but I quite like me.

"Singing is what I love and doing, Britain's Got Talent has been fun and made me happy."

A spokesperson for Britain's Got Talent ensured us they were providing the right support to Jonathan in the light of Susan Boyle's breakdown in 2009.

“Jonathan chose to enter the competition and is enjoying his time on the show and his family are supporting him fully. We are aware of Jonathan's circumstances and have been closely involved in discussions about his welfare with his family.

“Thames has long experience of dealing with people who choose to audition for entertainment shows. The welfare of contestants is our key priority and we work with them to provide what help and support is needed. The series celebrates British talent and gives ordinary people the chance to showcase their individual abilities and transform their lives."

Show insider added: “Jonathan has been given the all-clear by his own psychologist and BGT's team too. He and his family are getting full support from BGT.”

After the singer appeared on Daybreak this morning, he took to Twitter to thank fans for their support.

"Messages from people just keep pouring in, it's overwhelming, had a lot of fun on daybreak, thankyou again to everyone
