86-Year-Old German Gymnast Johanna Quaas Dominates The Floor At Cottbus 2012 (VIDEO)

Huffington Post UK  |  By Posted: 30/03/2012 12:29 Updated: 2/04/2012 11:19

On the same day we discover that there's a 22-month-old toddler out there that can climb to the top of a homemade bouldering wall, comes this extraordinary footage of a 86-year-old gymnast pulling off moves we dare not even dream of at the pre-Olympics German gymnastics event, Cottbus 2012.

Just look at her, bouncing and flipping and putting us all to shame. At least it's just floor work, eh? It's not like she's brilliant at bars too, now is it...? Oh, wait. She is.

Today is not a day to be young and unfit. Quick, call the nearest gym to book in some personal trainer sessions! Then, of course, you can ignore his/her phone calls until you have to change your mobile number. You know, the usual.

This woman's life should be studied as intensely as a lab rat's. How is it she flips and headstands and manages not to break bones, pull tendons out....?

I am a 45 year old with rheumatoid arthritis and am seeing bits of myself fall away never to be seen again.I can do less and less each day,at times it is difficult to argue with myself to get out of bed so I am trying to hold tight to my spirit.what I have seen here will allow me to argue even harder, her spirit shines and puts me to shame.I love this she proves without doubt you can never let anyone take that from you, those expectations of failure from others eyes can defeat you before you even try.well done madam you made me weep and I thank you,you are a perfect 10 in my book.

Sure wish there were more "feel good" stories to read about, just like this one. It sort of made my day. I just might walk a little lighter today.

I am 70 and feel danged lucky to get out of bed and over to the dinner table! This woman is an example of what we can do if we think young. Hmmm, think I'll go out and do some target practice with my guns and see if I still have it. There's no way I could even stand along side this wonderful woman. She is truly blessed with good health, grace and drive.

A few years ago I promised myself that I would do my last standing back flip on my 30th birthday; I turned 30 a week ago and found that i can still do them easily, even after not attempting one for two years, so needless to say I felt pretty good about it; after watching this video I don't feel quite as impressive lol. Most people do not live to 86, so to be able to perform skills such as those is beyond impressive, it is incredible.

You'll probablly be able to do them at 40 too. It's after that, that trouble starts.

I'm not impressed. I could do all of that - when I was 30!
