Fabrice Muamba's fiancee has posted a picture of the recovering midfielder on Twitter.
Sent via Muamba's own account, it shows the 23-year-old player - who suffered a cardiac arrest 13 days ago - sitting up in his hospital bed and smiling.
Shauna Muamba said: "Fab wanted me to post this pic for you all and to also say thank you for such overwhelming support."
Medics at the London Chest Hospital have said the ex-England Under-21 international has made "encouraging progress" this week, after his heart stopped beating independently for 78 minutes a fortnight ago.
Muamba's fiancee tweeted on his behalf:
It was revealed the Bolton player also watched his team on Match of the Day last Saturday.
Bolton beat Blackburn 2-1, in what was regarded as a major six-pointer, with both teams lying just above the Premier League's relegation zone.
The Trotters however lost their rescheduled FA Cup quarter-final tie to Tottenham 3-1 on Wednesday.
