Falklands Islands 'Will Be Ours One Day' Says Argentinian Foreign Affairs Chairman Daniel Filmus

Falklands

The Falkland Islands will belong to Argentina one day, according to a senior politician in the country's ruling party.

But Daniel Filmus, who is chairman of the foreign affairs committee in the Argentine senate, said Argentina would not try to take the disputed islands by force.

In an interview with Radio Five Live's Breakfast programme, he said: "There's no suppression which lasts forever.

"It's just a matter of how much time it takes for it to be understood that there must be dialogue and the need to find a mechanism for diplomatic agreement to get us there."

Speaking ahead of the 30th anniversary of the start of the Falklands War, which began on April 2 1982, Mr Filmus said Argentines "have enough patience and know what is right".

Argentina has revived the dispute over the islands it calls Las Malvinas as the anniversary approaches.

Filmus told the programme: "It is in our constitution and it is in the hearts of all Argentinians that sooner or later we will regain the Malvinas, which is just 700km off our coastline and more than 14,000 km from the British coast, along with all the riches that are there - fishing, oil and the Antarctic projects.

"And this is something that concerns the sovereignty not just of Argentina but the whole of Latin America."

Argentina clearly still shows signs of a dictatorship, the type of government they themselves hated so much in the 80s, by not accepting the desire of the islanders wanting to remain British.
This desire should end the infinite yapping and whining by Argentina.
Let Argentina present a case to the UN. The UN surely will not bypass the desire of the Falklanders to stay with the UK. A legitimate end of Argentina's claim for quite a while.

I hope my country, the US, will stand by the UK as our cousins have stood next to us for the past 100 years. But you shouldn't need our help. Argentina is a wreck.....

They will be given to Argentina some day by the apologist MP's who want us to be ashamed to be British.

Sooner the better as far as I'm concerned. And like everything else in Tory Britain I'm sure its got a price tag on it somewhere. So as soon as they come up with the readies I'm sure Cameron will pop on his estate agent hat and flog it to them.

So what does a useless lump of rock in the South Atlantic fetch these days. How many British lives is it worth. Best thing to do is arm and train the Islanders and then just leave them to it. Let them die for their own freedom. Seems to me our service men and women do a lot of dying for other peoples freedom.

Unless they've got Prince in front of their name of course, then they just do a lot of grinning into camera lenses and partying.

I noticed my comment has been removed. What's wrong, does someone not like to be reminded that up until relatively recently Argentina was ruled by military dictatorship. Maybe the people of the Falklands just want to be certain their kids grow up an a free country.

The islands belong to no-one but the people who live there. We all know what they want.

One day they may well be, like the south of Ireland,
think about it.
No doubt after all the oil has gone.
Similar to where we Scots stand now.
