Peter Cruddas On Scottish Independence: Conservatives Should 'Fake' Opposition For Post Referendum Deal

The Sunday Times has secretly filmed Peter Cruddas

Peter Cruddas, former Tory party co-treasurer, has been secretly filmed saying that the Conservatives should be seen campaigning to keep the union of Scotland and England, even if they would actually prefer independence, the Sunday Times has revealed.

It is the second embarrassment for the disgraced chairman, who was forced to step down last week after the "cash for access" scandal, which appeared to show him offering meeting with the Prime Minister in exchange for donations.

Cruddas appears to describe First Minister Alex Salmon as "the mad Scotsman" in the video and suggests that if the Conservatives "fake" opposition to Independence, they will be in stronger position to negotiate a deal if Scotland does vote for Independence in the planned 2014 referendum.

The BBC reports that Cruddas is seen telling the undercover Sunday Times reporter:

We as a party have to be seen to be fighting to keep the Union together. Even if we don’t agree with it, because at the end of it all, if the Scots say we’re out of here and they want to go independent, we can turn around and say it’s not what we wanted, it’s not what we campaigned for, you can’t have this, you can’t have that, and you can get on with it."

The Prime Minister is being pressed for an explanation by the SNP following the revelations, which the SNP described as a "bombshell".

Deputy Minister Nicola Strugeon told STV: “This is another bombshell for the Scottish Tories, who are isolated and irrelevant in the games being played by their London bosses."

Everyone is commenting on the main revelation.

Always pay attention to the small print at the end of the quote below:
"if the Scots say we’re out of here and they want to go independent, we can turn around and say it’s not what we wanted, it’s not what we campaigned for, you can’t have this, you can’t have that"

Shrewd observers will have already seen this stance being set up in the media. eg. The heavy emphasis on Scotland inheriting a large slice of the UK National Debt - but never a mention of the matching share of National Assets.

Perfidious Albion is setting up to short change Scotland in the negotiations.

Looks like Wee Eck is going to win by letting the Tories campaign for him!

Now let's have the next bombshell from the Tory-lite party. You know, the ones that sport the English rose as a symbol?

Tories have got themselves another 'elephant in the room', not long before they have a fully fledged sanctuary!

If it wasn't so serious, it would be comical.

Aye you could be right, i hope we chose to drop the dependancy culture but i know fine well the staggering level of apathy in many of our peoples hearts.

I'll never understand why some lunatics claim to hate the English, only to react with horror when you suggest that we should govern ourselves.

Cruddas is priceless. He should have a reality show. I loved that bit about premier league. The Tories must be cringing. Labour gets whacked by Galloway. Not a good week for the big parties.
