Garda police at Smithfield Horse Fair in Dublin were left blushing after a stallion mistook one officer for a rather fine filly during the Sunday afternoon market.

The piebald pony decided to reverse roles and take a member of the Garda for a ride after a police officer tried to take a look at the horse's electronic tag.

As its owner struggled to restrain the beast, one policeman's hat was knocked off, and another officer was left cowering.

However the high-spirited horse continued get frisky, oblivious to the long faces of local law enforcement.
