Liverpool Legend John Aldridge Says Club Are 'Becoming A Laughing Stock'

Joke's On Us - Aldridge Says Fans Are Laughing At Liverpool

Liverpool legend John Aldridge fears the club is becoming a "laughing stock" following recent results.

The Reds have lost six of their last seven Premier League games, and Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle has left them in eighth place in the table.

And Aldridge has used his column in the Liverpool Echo to air his disappointment at Kenny Dalglish's side.

"There is no getting away from the fact that Liverpool FC are now in a crisis. To lose six out of seven in the league is something the club won’t ever tolerate, we can’t tolerate that," he said.

"The fact that this is the worst run in the league since 1954 speaks volumes. Questions are being asked and they need to be answered.

"The eyes of the world are on Liverpool FC and the critics are having a field day. We’re becoming a laughing stock."

The ex-Republic of Ireland international added it was becoming an "embarrassment" to support the club and some players should take a "long hard look in the mirror".

Aldridge, 53, spent two-and-a-half-years at Anfield, scoring 64 goals for the club.

He won the Division One title, FA Cup and League Cup during Dalglish's first tenure as club manager after signing from Oxford United for £78,000.

Dalglish has spent £114.2m on seven players since succeeding Roy Hodgson in January 2011, with many underperforming. And despite ending the club's six-year trophy drought with February's League Cup win, reports today suggest his job could come under review at the end of the current campaign.

The Reds face Everton in the FA Cup semi-final on 14 April as they bid to clinch a domestic cup double, however the priority at the beginning of the season was for Dalglish to lift the team into the Champions League places. Yet they are 16 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham.
