Police arrested a 35-year-old woman in connection with the murder of 92-year-old war veteran William Davis on Tuesday night.

Davis, a war veteran and great-grandfather died after receiving severe head injuries, police said. The 92-year-old was found in his home on Sunday evening.

Bill used to go into Willenhall on a weekly basis. He tended his own garden and maintained his home on his own. He was very well known in the local community and used to stop and chat to his neighbours.

"We know he was seen at 9am on Sunday 1 April in his front garden where he stopped and chatted to passers by.

"At around 3.15pm a neighbour took some lunch round to his house. At 6pm concerned neighbours who were unable to rouse Bill gained access to his property and found him."

A police spokesperson said the woman continued to help police with their enquiries on Wednesday morning.

"We are providing essential patrols and reassurance to the local area and understand the devastating impact this can have on such a tight knit community.

"The local neighbourhood policing team who have an excellent working relationship with the local community will be on patrol to offer reassurance and will be available to link in with anyone that needs advice or would like to discuss any concerns they may have."
