Bangkok

Thai police have arrested a man who held his own wife hostage at knifepoint on a Bangkok street.

Sakdawut Hamsiri, 30, believed to be under the influence of drugs at the time, held his wife Thawee Naiyanit with a knife to her throat as local police tried to negotiate her release.

The public stand-off lasted for six hours on Thursday with members of the public watching on as Bangkok police tried to calm Hamsiri.

In order to bring an end to the crisis, officers were forced to neutralise the knifeman with a Taser. He is now in police custody.

Naiyanit, who escaped largely unharmed, suffered minor cuts, as did her husband, evident from bloodstains on both their arms and clothes.

That Thai stick he's tokin' has a filter tip--that's how he rolls.
