British Soap Award Nominations: EastEnders' Jo Joyner & Coronation Street's Alison King Go Head-To-Head

SOAP AWARDS: Battle Of The Drama Queens

EastEnders' star Jo Joyner will take on Coronation Street's Alison King in the fight for acting gongs at this year's Soap Awards.

Jo, whose character Tanya Jessop has been battling cancer, and Alison, whose character Carla Connor was at the centre of a dramatic rape storyline, are both shortlisted for Best Actress and Best Dramatic Performance.

Tanya's on-off relationship with Max Branning also saw Jo and co-star Jake Wood nominated for Best On-Screen Partnership as well as Best Storyline.

Carla's ordeal at the hands of former fiance Frank Foster makes the Best Storyline shortlist too, and her drunken car crash gets Alison a nod in the Spectacular Scene Of The Year category.

The pair face competition from Jo's co-star Nina Wadia, who plays Zainab Khan, for the Best Actress gong, along with Hollyoaks star Karen Hassan, who plays Lynsey Nolan.

Emmerdale's Danny Miller, who recently left his role as Aaron Livesy, will be hoping to make it a second win in a row in the Best Actor category, where he is up against Corrie's Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow), EastEnders' Shane Richie (Alfie Moon) and Hollyoaks' Emmett J Scanlan (Brendan Brady).

Other nominees include last year's winners of the viewer-voted Sexiest Female and Sexiest Male awards, Coronation Street's Michelle Keegan and EastEnders star Scott Maslen, who are in the running to pick up the gongs again.

Walford's farewell to cast stalwart Pam St Clement, who played Pat Butcher for 25 years, is nominated for the Best Single Episode, as is Katherine Kelly's exit as Corrie favourite Becky McDonald.

Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks will fight it out to be named Best British Soap.

The awards, held in London later this month, will be presented by Phillip Schofield and shown on ITV1 in May.
