The town where Hollywood blockbuster The Hunger Games is up for sale – should you have a spare £880,000 knocking about.

The 72-acre Henry River Mill Village in North Carolina, was used to shoot scenes in District 12, where heroine Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) lives.

Owner Wade Shepherd has been trying to sell the site without luck for years, The Sun reported. But thanks to the success of the film, he’s had more interest than he can handle.

The 83-year-old said: “We’ve had visitors by the thousands. This Saturday alone we had more than 200 here at once from every corner of the country.

“Before the movie I had some interest from one gentleman who wanted to knock it all down and build new houses. But I would hate to lose the history.

“But I’ve had lots of calls since the movie. I would be happy if a fan bought it. It would mean they might preserve it.”

The adaptation of the young adult novel by Suzanne Collins has already proven to be a smash hit, taking £4.85 million over its opening weekend in the UK - the biggest box office hit of 2012 so far (and more than double Twilight's first premiere).

This is after becoming the third most profitable debut movie ever in the US, where it took $152.5 million (£96.1 million) in its opening weekend.
