Sir Chris Hoy Olympic Tickets
Sir Chris Hoy's father said not enough was being done for families.

A new Olympics tickets row broke out on Friday after Sir Chris Hoy's father said not enough was being done for families.

David Hoy, whose son has won four cycling gold medals, including three at the last Games in Beijing, said he was struggling to get hold of tickets to watch him compete in London.

Every British athlete has been given the opportunity to buy two for each session in which they compete.

But Mr Hoy told the BBC: "I don't think athletes' families have been taken into consideration. It's not rocket science.

"It just needs somebody to sit down and think about the families who have got the athletes to this level. Just a little bit of payback would be very welcome."

He said it was unfair that Sir Chris could be faced with choosing whether his tickets go to his parents, wife or sister.
Many events at the Games, including cycling, have been oversubscribed.

Mr Hoy said that with the final round of ticket sales due to take place in a few weeks' time, the organisers should hold back some of them for families.

He said his message to the London 2012 Organising Committee (Locog) was simple: "Please consider how you would feel if your son or daughter had worked for 10 or 12 years and slaved, trained really hard, got to this level, and then you were told 'Really sorry, you're going to have to sit and watch it at home'.

"Just imagine how you'd feel and do something about it, please."

A Locog spokesman said today: "Locog is guaranteeing all athletes up to two tickets for family and friends for every session they compete in, and this hasn't always been the case for previous Games.

"Athletes' families typically can also get tickets from governing bodies and their national Olympic committees. Sponsor Procter & Gamble is also helping Team GB athletes' families with tickets."

The ticketing system for the Games has proved controversial, with complaints about an alleged lack of transparency from the organisers in giving a breakdown over tickets in terms of price and by events, so it can be checked whether they are keeping their promises to make seats affordable.

Organisers had previously had to deny rumours that babies will not be guaranteed a seat next to their parents if they are bought a seat when tickets go back on sale.

The whole ticket system is a farce, inasmuch as UK citizens aare at the bottonm of the list. Why foreign dignitaries ,and hangers ,on are given preference over our citizens is a National disgrace. Is it any wonder that so many people are now anti-games, and are the ones to suffer from all the disturbance and inconveniences this farce has caused?

HOY WAS KNIGHTED FOR WINNING A CYCLE RACE OR TWO and a person was made a dame for winning a running race and the parents were invited to the palace there are many people out there who are more deserved of an honour and this will be argued on the Queens birthday and on the new year list , if every parent/s of every single competitor were to get free tickets there will be non for the people who pay towards the cost of the games, and don't forget the parent/s and family are treated like VIP's and VIP tickets are very expensive and out of the price range for most ordinary Joe Bloggs .

First of all, the comments about Mr. Hoy's size have nothing to do with anything, they are simply mean-spirited and useless, contributing nothing to the conversation. Secondly, no matter what your opinion of the games themselves, how the tickets have been alloted, the disruptions this is going to cause to your lives, etc (I dont disagree with any of that) the simple fact is this: most of these athletes would not be where they are today if their parents had not supported them to get them to this point. All of them had the parents financial and time commitments when they were young. Many of them continue to have that support as adults. This commitment should be acknowledged with at least 4 tickets; two for the parents and two for wife and child. The athletes should not be asked to make a choice. Even if they have pay for the tickets, the tickets should at least be set aside for them to have first refusal.

I don't know what the fuss is about.
Families should pool their resources if they only want to watch one event.
Family members for competitors in event 1 take their seats, as soon as the race is finished they hand all of their tickets to the family of someone competing in the next race.
Everybody gets to see their own family star and they didn't need to break the bank or occupy the whole stadium to do it. Simples!
All we need is someone to organise this - suggestions on a postcard please ...

Is David Hoy angry that he'll need to take the two tickets as he seems to need two seats?

I couldn't care less whether he gets to watch live or not, consider this the London boroughs have paid disproportionately for an Olympic event which we can't afford to go see, and will have our lives disrupted and how many tickets were allocated for me?
None.

Thats because Coe and his cohorts have taken all the tickets. They dont care about the competitors they only care about how much money they can stealth away into their back pockets. Maybe an (and I use this word carefully) honest British MP could ask if the organisers can be independantly investigated and see who comes out clean......

How many politicians ,who have done nothing, will be entitled to free tickets simply because of their job.Maybe an investigation should be launched to get the figures

Does "limited space" mean anything? I understand their disappointment but this is much ado about nothing. His wife and child should go btw, his parents can watch in television.

I agree with you. He is married and his family take priority, anyone who chooses his parents before spouse is not likely to be married by the next olympics.

Yes, you are correct. Some people feel they're "entitled" because of their offspring, I disagree however. Take the wife and child and the parents should stop embarrassing their child, assuming (uh oh) he's embarrassed. The gracelessness of some people is unnerving IMO.

David Hoy would probably need 2 seats for himself

That's mean but sadly I have to admit to a "mean moment" myself, when I saw his father's photo I thought the same too.

Lol, I disagree. Two and a half seats !.
