Woolwich

A 18-year-old woman died today after plunging from the 17th floor of a flat as police raided the address in Woolwich, south-east London, Scotland Yard said.

Scotland Yard said she fell from her bedroom window before officers arrested a man on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The incident at a tower block in Woolwich, south east London, has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The woman fell when police arrived at her address in Mulgrave Road at 9.30am "to carry out an arrest inquiry".

The Metropolitan Police's Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) has also been called in to investigate the plunge.

A spokesman said: "Shortly after the officers entered the flat, a woman, who is believed to be 18, fell from a bedroom window on the 17th floor.

"She was pronounced dead at the scene. We await formal identification. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

"A man was arrested by officers on suspicion of assisting an offender and is currently in custody at a south London police station."

As this government make cuts to our Police expect more mistakes. The police have had massive cuts to their budgets and staff have gone and no one to replace them. Yet this government can give £13 billion in overseas aid to think you will suffer whilst we givew such large sums of money away and some of these natios have nuclear weapons and or large Armed forces much bigger than our own which are being cut down it will not be long before all we have is dads army.

Cannot agree with some of the vile comments here. But it gives a true picture of the nature and opinions of some of the people. This is never achieved by banning the freedom to express your views however objectionable.Only 18 eh? A sorry waste of a young life.

Still a lot to come out on this story so spiteful comments might be premature. What were her crimes? What was her name? Where was she from? More info. please.

agreed. one less criminal to support. if you had been her victim you wouldn't feel sorry for her. her next potential victim would no doubt be grateful for her stupidity of hiding out a 17th story window.

According to MSN, the police went to the flat to recall her to prison, after she had part served a sentence for street robbery. She obviously didn't stick to her release terms. It's not the fault of the cops that she messed up, nor is it their fault that she tried to escape justice and paid for it with her life.
Sorry to the delicate souls who cannot face facts, she was a crim who could've behaved but didn't, or could've gone back to prison without a fuss but chose otherwise!

LOL she tried to escape? Not a good escape plan jumping from the 17th floor.

what drugs was she on that made her think she could fly,to much blame is pointed at the police for being over the top tactics,if these people didnt break the law then they wouldnt have to jump out of windows

She thought she was Wonder Woman.... I told her wonder woman could not fly!

Can't believe Huffpost allowed some of the comments on here tonight.

A young girl dies, falling 17 floors, we're not given any reason, not told what her crime was or anything and most posts gloat over her death like vultures. No sensitivity, no compassion, no wonder the world's in such a state.

It's the norm, even if someones killed in an RTA, a post mortem still has to be carried out.

Of course they do. Somone has to rule out "truncheon blow to the head" as the COD.

Ive just been listening to this on the news.

One thing is certain to come out of this.....the street robbery statistics will take a drop (no pun intended)

Unbelievable some of the previous comments. What if it was YOUR sister or daughter that had fallen to her death? Its becoming like an audience with Jeremy Kyle on here these days. No class whatsoever. Tally ho.

Its tragic, but tbh unless she was forced out of the window its her own fault.

A few years ago I did a skydive, if the equipment was all ok and i was trained to the correct standard and something still went wrong, it was my choice to go up in the plane and jump.
