Manchester City Face West Brom And Manchester United Travel To Wigan On Premier League Wednesday

Premier League Wednesday

Another crucial evening of Premier League football is upon us, as Manchester City seek a glimmer of hope while neighbours United look to pile on the gloom over Eastlands.

The City slippers are at home to Roy Hodgson's West Brom, whom they drew 0-0 with at the Hawthorns on Boxing Day, as they look to close the gap on United again following one win in their last four league games.

Mario Balotelli will not be facing West Brom tonight

The fixture also brings back memories of one of the quirkiest games in modern Premier League history. Albion drew 1-1 with City at Eastlands in December 2004 despite not having one shot on target. A Richard Dunne own goal afforded them a draw in what was the catalyst to their great escape from the drop, as Bryan Robson's team became the first in the Premier League era to avoid relegation despite being bottom at Christmas.

United head to Wigan boasting an immaculate record against the Latics. Since the hosts' promotion to the Premier League in 2005, they have played the Reds 13 times and lost on every occasion - with an aggregate score of 4-42. They also defeated Paul Jewell's team in the 2006 League Cup final 4-0.

Wigan are one of Rooney's joint favourite opponents, along with Arsenal and Portsmouth

If you are a betting man, we'd suggest you take a punt on Wayne Rooney to score at the DW Stadium. He has scored ten times in 14 appearances against Wigan.

Travelling south and to the Black Country, bottom side Wolves host a resurgent Arsenal side eager to pull further away from north London rivals Tottenham. A win for Arsene Wenger's firing-on-all-cylinders Gunners would leave Harry Redknapp's not-so-hot-Spurs five points behind.

Marouane Chamakh scored both goals in Arsenal's 2-0 win at Molineux last season

And Terry Connor has taken just one point from seven games since he was appointed interim manager at Molineux, with Wolves six points adrift of the relegation zone and with the worst goal difference in the league by a margin of seven.

Further south and to Shepherd's Bush, where Mark Hughes' QPR host fellow promotion winners Swansea City at Loftus Road.

QPR have already lost at home to the other Championship ascenders from last season - Norwich City - in January during the final days of Neil Warnock's reign. The Rs have however won their last two home matches - against Liverpool and Arsenal - having gone two months without a win at Loftus Road.

Adel Taarabt and Rangel Angel will face off again tonight

Fourteenth-placed Swansea have won four on the road since they broke their duck outside of the Land of their Fathers against Aston Villa in January. But following three wins on the trot, they have lost three on the trot, most recently at home to Newcastle on Good Friday.
