Jane McEvoy has become the fourth candidate to be fired by Lord Sugar on 'The Apprentice'

Jane McEvoy, the assertive Irish businesswoman with her own company, has become fourth candidate this series to hear the unpleasant words from Lord Sugar - "You're Fired!"

He told her he hadn't seen anything to impress him with her sales technique (she came bottom this week), to which she could only respond: “I’m quite a serious person, I’m not a market trader, I haven’t done that before. I am more comfortable in the business to business environment.”

The final three were from Team Sterling, which had got bogged down with the task of locating and selling vintage stock, which they interpreted as a brief to upcycle everything - adding a Union Jack to everything under Gabrielle's creative guidance - and buying far too many items. As Lord Sugar commented on their shop, it "looked like a tip."

Despite questions being asked as to the wisdom of Gabrielle's ideas, the figures told the real story - Gabrielle was the top seller, while Jane was at the bottom, with sales of only £10.

Project manager Laura brought back both Gabrielle and Jane with her to explain themselves in the boardroom, and initially it seemed as if it would be either Gabrielle or Laura going home, as they tore into each other.

Gabrielle complained there had been no strategy, and questioned Laura's contribution, despite her leadership role - "I took responsibility and did not shy away from it... what did you do?"

Shocked by Gabrielle’s comments, Laura responds by claiming that she was “at the centre of everything”.

At this point, Jane made the mistake of drawing Lord Sugar's attention to her, by perking up and pointing out there should have been a budget for materials.

This drew Laura's fire, who decided to bring up the sore topic of Jane's sales. Lord Sugar wasn't having any of Jane's protestations that she'd been reduced to flyer duty in the street and moved to his final verdict. After deciding to keep Gabrielle for her enthusiasm, he chose between Laura and Jane:

"Laura, you lost the plot and you didn’t run the team very well. But I have a bigger concern with you, Jane. You’ve been in the losing team three times in four weeks and nothing I have seen yet tells me that you are this great business person. So on that basis, Jane - You’re Fired.”

Jane said afterwards, "Lord Sugar mightn’t have wanted me but I will be extremely successful in everything that I do and hopefully in a few years time he’ll look back and say ‘I shouldn’t have fired her.'"

Listen guys I just don't agree with all the negative comments about the show. Anyone that as been in the IT field would surely of heard of Amstrad. They certainly did make decent PC at affordable prices and at the time IBM where the big players and where are they now on PC end-user front. To say this programme as no business aspect is clearly foolish. I'm amfraid what is been taught at many of the colleges and educational institutions has very little bearing on business, if so why all these lectures working for a guaranteed salary. You have to remember that all tv programmes have to an entertainment value but those smart enough should be able look past that and see all the business content. I kinda of wonder of all those criticizing the show did you religious tune into BBC Money Programme every Sunday I'd take punt and say you never. This is a quality programme along with 'Make me a million" and "Million dollar trader" as what's on show cannot be simply obtained by lecturering and text books but one's own experience and character.

Reality always bites
Sometimes just a bit peckish

After a long day; I watched most of the program, half expecting David Dickenson or Tim Wannacot to pop up.
Sadly (Maybe) I was falling asleep before the end.
The staggering thing was that people in the capital city will gladly pay well over the odds for 'Tat' if there is a chance of being filmed.
When SIRALAN fired her I couldn't remember who she was or what she did- Seems he will forget her quite quickly also!

Have to say I found her attractive ! Maybe that was the problem - Karen Brady didnt like her !

Poor taste!

Well in fairness I dont exoect Mz Brady to be attracted to her - I am not aware she is so inclined !

Yep, she's attractive enough, but she was much too pushy and aggressive when trying to sell stuff in the show. That's just not how it's done in the junk, collectables and antiques trades, where potential customers just want expert information about the items on sale.

I use 'SUGAR' as a swear word.

Would anybody actually want to work for an a***ole like sugar ?

The program is a nonsense in terms of real business and if the Lord don't know it he is an idiot. So often business is about a cool steady approach and perseverance. One does not achieve top sales on every project or get it right all the time.

To be quite honest the last thing I would want is Lord Sugar as a partner / investor. If your business acumen thinks otherwise then give up now.

I do find the program entertaining, a bit of fun, something that gives me amusement.
