EastEnders Omnibus Shelved After 27 Years, Moved To BBC1 Post-Midnight Friday Slot

Will Anyone Miss The EastEnders Omnibus?

EastEnders fans are up in arms after BBC bosses decided to ditch the Sunday afternoon omnibus of the soap after 27 years.

The omnibus of the award-winning soap about Albert Square residents will now air on BBC One late on Friday, running into the early hours of Saturday morning.

The change was made over the Easter bank holiday weekend but the BBC have confirmed the new slot will be permanent ahead of the Diamond Jubilee, Olympics and Euro 2012.

A show spokesman said: "Viewers now catch up on EastEnders through digital recorders, our BBC Three repeat or on iPlayer. We've therefore decided to move the omnibus."

Fans blasted the decision on internet forums.

One viewer wrote on Digital Spy: "This is so stupid. The Sunday omnibus is tradition. Who'll watch it at that time?"

The first late-night omnibus last Friday saw 477,000 viewers tune in, compared to 792,000 the previous Sunday.
