Yes, yes, we know what you're thinking: didn't Sabrina The Teenage Witch already have several movie makeovers in the "made-for-TV" vein?

The answer is yes. And if you're interested, the best one was Sabrina Goes To Rome - a classic tale of being unable to open a mysterious locket while your friend wanders the streets kissing pigeons.

Obvs that sort of thing failed to set the world on fire cinematically so, according to Deadline, Sony Pictures have decided the time is right to give the teen witch the proper Hollywood treatment.

Sabrina, who first appeared on pop culture radars during the 60s as a character in the Archie Comics, will be given a superhero-style origins story to show her coming to terms with her magical powers.

We're assuming it'll be a "With great power comes great responsibility" type affair but with the added heartbreak of Sabrina never being allowed to see her mother because a single glance could turn mama Spellman into a ball of wax. Spiderman had it so much easier.

Deadline also say that Sony intend to keep Salem the cat but he's going to be a prince in pet form rather than a thwarted furry megalomaniac. Sadface.

P.S. We don't really have an appropriate gallery for this kind of story but here are some celebrity Hallowe'en costumes - there's probably a witch in there somewhere!
