FA Cup Semi-Finals Week: Leeds United V Coventry City, 1987 (VIDEO)

WATCH Great FA Cup Semi-Finals: Leeds v Coventry 1987

Both now struggling in the Championship, Leeds United and Coventry City served up a terrific FA Cup spectacle in the 1987 semi-final.

Leeds were actually in the Second Division when they faced Division One Coventry at Hillsborough on 12 April, whilst their opponents would finish 10th in the First Division table.

The Whites had been relegated to the second tier of English football in 1982 and would not return to the top flight until 1990, when they won the league two years later under Howard Wilkinson.

But whereas Leeds had enjoyed a golden period under Don Revie in the late 60s and early 70s, their opponents had no need for an honours board.

Nevertheless, the Sky Blues were favourites to face Tottenham, who woud go on to beat Watford 4-1 in the second quarter-final at Villa Park, at Wembley in May.

And like our other greatsemifinals this week, this clash went into extra-time. Twenty-five years and one day on, enjoy the nostalgia.
