Adelbaset al-Megrahi

The Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi has been admitted to hospital for a blood transfusion, it has been reported.

Al-Megrahi's health is said to have "deteriorated quickly".

His brother Abdulhakim told Reuters news agency today that he was taken from his home in Tripoli, Libya, to a private hospital.

"His health began to deteriorate quickly and we were worried about him, so took him immediately to the hospital where he is receiving a blood transfusion," he said.

Megrahi is the only man ever convicted of the bombing, which killed 270 people when Pan Am Flight 103 blew up over Lockerbie, Dumfries and Galloway, four days before Christmas in 1988.

He was sentenced to life in prison in 2001, but was released on compassionate grounds from Greenock Prison, Inverclyde, in August 2009, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

At the time, doctors estimated he had around three months to live.

BP Oil should answer for this: using political pressure to release this guy from prison so they could get Libya's oil.

Then BP Oil causes the Gulf of Mexico's big oil spill. Is there no stopping the evilness of this company? I'm so sick of seeing their PR ads about "come back to the Gulf" for vacation. Everyone knows that it will never be the same since this oil leak.

Let's leave the oil cartel and create new forms of energy. They are the Earth's downfall.

What does it matter who planted the Lockerbie bomb on PanAm flight 103 so long as we can take our revenge out on Megrahi?
The fact that the real culprits have been free to live out their lives in obscurity comes second to seeing this guy die a lingering and painful death.
Doesn't matter who is actually guilty, so long as somebody pays?

It says his health is deteriorating quickly.......Not as quickly as the poor passengers on flight 103, and they never had the luxury of seeing their families on "compassionate grounds".!

If I get cancer, can I be treated in a Scottish hospital? The doctors involved deserve Nobel prizes for medicine. Or if I only pretend to have cancer .....................

Alex Salmond wants an independant Scotland. On your next trip you'll need a visa

If Megrahi had remained in Scotland he'd be long dead, but in Libya he has access to treatment we don't.

What are the time limits on a terminal illness?
06:55 AM on 04/15/2012
I don't anybody can answer that. I suppose it depends on the severity and stage of the illness but I dont believe his illness was as bad as reported in the first place.

If the UK and USA governments get their way, then the answer to your very valid question is likely to be, "Never."
07:39 PM on 04/14/2012
Too true sir. Shame we put up with this corrupt aparatus. You would think that the people who pay for these organisations (us) would have demanded a clean house. But all we keep getting is inquiries led by the worst of the grotty system - Lords!!!

They were worried about him ? he is a cold blooded murderer so9 what if he dies what is his life over the hundreds he killed !?
02:50 PM on 04/14/2012
I am very much afraid the cold hearted murderers are still free to walk the streets, shielded by successive US and UK governments who cannot afford the truth of their complicity to be exposed. Why else would they get away with keeping crucial defence evidence from the accused and their key Maltese prosecution witness be given $millions and a new identity in Australia?
If this happened in any other court the defendant would be back on the streets that very day.

Lets all hope his death is very long, slow, and very very painful

I guess his terminal cancer became less so once that oil deal went through.
09:37 AM on 04/14/2012
There's no deals made with oil.........we have to pay the international price for it, no matter who controls it.

There is evidence that says otherwise. It's tenuous, but given al-Magrahi's health I would give them some credibility.

What oil deal would that be, and when can we expect to see our share here in Scotland?

Seriously though, everyone should read 'The Trail of the Octopus', by Lester Coleman, a DIA agent who stumbled on who really bombed Flight 103.? It wasn't al-Megrahi. In fact, it wasn't any Libyans at all.

Basically, it was a Lebanese terror group, who'd infiltrated a CIA drug-running (ring a bell?) operation in Cyprus and put the bomb aboard in Frankfurt, with a courier whose luggage, (and drugs, I guess) was snatched away from the crash site.
All US embassy staff travelling back from Moscow knew not to take that plane; the swine didn't bother to tell anyone else. Coleman fled America and wrote his book in Sweden. Full text here, on the Unsafe At Any Speed man's pages:
