Girl, 10, Left With Serious Injuries After Attack Causes Cleveland Police To Renew Appeal

Police Renew Appeal After 10-Year-Old Girl Left With Serious Injuries From Attack

A 10-year-old girl who went missing for hours and was left with serious injuries following an attack has been discharged from hospital as police renewed their appeal for witnesses.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with assault and is currently going through the court system, Cleveland Police said on Saturday.

The girl, from Stockton-on-Tees, suffered "serious but non life-threatening injuries" during the incident last Saturday.

Police said the alarm was raised at 6.30pm that day when the girl went missing from her home.

She was found in Maritime Way, Stockton, at 9pm by a member of the public.

The youngster was discharged from a specialist paediatric unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle on Friday.

The incident prompted a huge police operation involving 48 officers working in a specialist incident room, including specially trained search officers, and a police helicopter.

Police today renewed their appeal for witnesses and carried out an "information-seek" in the area.

The girl is 4ft tall and has brown hair. She was wearing black leggings and a chequered top with a brown furry-warmer at the time, police said.

A police spokeswoman said today: "Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Stockton police station or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
