The Voice contestant Jaz Ellington reduces panellists Jessie J and Will.i.am to tears on tonight's show

Coaches on BBC1's hit series The Voice are left red-eyed as a hopeful reduces them to tears on tonight's show.

Singing teacher Jaz Ellington from London leaves panellists Jessie J and Will.i.am blubbing with his extraordinary performance of John Legend track Ordinary People.

The 27-year-old had already dazzled the coaches, and the audience, with his rendition of Ed Sheeran's hit The A Team.

But Jessie insisted he should try his hand at another song and asked him to have a try at Legend's 2005 hit, which was co-written by Black Eyed Peas star Will.

Each of the judges is taken aback by the delivery, with Jessie and Will welling up and dabbing their damp eyes.

And Will says of gospel-influenced Ellington, whose wife is three months pregnant: "Not only did he sing awesome, but he also blessed us with a better version of Ordinary People."

Coaches in tonight's edition of the show - which last week pulled in more viewers than rival Britain's Got Talent, prompting ITV to move its show to a later slot from next week - will be seen finalising the line-up of their teams.

The show includes musician and waiter John James Newman, 33, who has been touring in a line-up of his father Sandy's '70s band Marmalade - along with his actor brother Alec, who stars in BBC1's Waterloo Road.

He has written for Kylie Minogue and opened for Bon Jovi at the O2 Arena with his band Velvet Hearts.

Next week the series moves on to the "battle rounds" section with the coaches pitting their own acts against each other to whittle them down in head-to-head contests.

Jenny Jones - A singing barlady who had previously overcome meningitis, she sang 'Mercy', much to Will.i.am's and Danny's delight. She opted to go with Will.i.am, but their battle raised the question of which panellist was following whom, when it came to making their team choices.

This man's voice reduced me to tears, too. He had such soul and amazing range and pitch. His child is going to be very proud of his daddy one day. I bet the rest of the panel are kicking themselves for not waiting for this special man.

Do you know I really didn't think i was going to like 'The Voice' but I do, all these people can sing
whether you like their style or not. It's the 'X Factor' that had me reaching for the OFF switch with all that ridiculing of people who thought they could sing but I guess a lot of people tuned in for just that.

I've been enjoying the Voice up until this point but have to agree with you. Nothing like giving someone the advantage of singing twice to make the public remember them! Fantastic voice but then most of them have as well.

Not only that but I've just watched Dale Winton on In It To Win It tap the lone contestant twice on the back who didn't know the answer to win the £25,000. Surprise, surprise it was answer B. She may not have picked up on it but it looked decidedly dodgy from where I was sitting.

My hubby and I were saying the same thing. The guy had a brilliant voice but all just too convenient that he could sing that song (fantastic version) off the cuff like that. And to be the last contestant and get picked!! Think its a great format and all but come on BBC, we weren't all born yesterday. Credit us with some intelligence!
