Dalai Lama 'To Bless' Aldershot Town Football Club's Pitch

They Think It's Dalai Lama - It Is Now

The Dalai Lama is set to address Buddhists on Aldershot Town's pitch.

His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso is expected to bless the EBB Stadium's pitch in front of a capacity crowd of 7,100 in June.

Tibet's spiritual leader, 61, is set to embark on an eight-day tour of the UK and will deliver a speech on "non-violence, dialogue and universal responsibility".

Aldershot - based in Hampshire - boasts a large Nepalese community due to its links to the Army's Gurkha soliders.

And the club's associate director Richard Petty said: “Margaret Thatcher visited our club once — but we’ve never had a head of state like this.

“I will ask him to bless the pitch and give us divine assistance for next season.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Buddhist community and the Dalai Lama to our ground. As a football club we’re striving to build relationships with local communities.”

The Dalai Lama won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, and to sit or stand in his presence at the EBB Stadium tickets cost £30 for the former and £15 for the latter. A VIP box will set you back £100.
