UKIP Leader Nigel Farage has overtaken the LibDems in the polls

The UK Independence Party has overtaken the LibDems for the first time ever, according to a new poll.

In a YouGov poll conducted for The Sun, the anti-EU party has increased its support to 9%, while the Liberal Democrats have slipped to 8%.

The poll, ahead of May's local elections, also puts Labour 11 points ahead of the Tories. Another poll by Populus, out today, shows Labour are on a nine point lead over the Conservatives.

The UK Independence Party has previously trailed the LibDems, rising only once to level pegging with Nick Clegg's party.

The news comes as another YouGov poll suggested only seven of 57 LibDems would survive as MPs in a general election, with LibDem leader Nick Clegg and business secretary Vince Cable among those in danger.

I wish I hadnt commented,Uber right wingers have the habit of recording those who speak ourt against them and later "deal with them"
I would therefore like to retract everything I have just said, and add I will vote UKIP...phew
nearly a fatal mistake made their

As a history student, I feel the need for some to vote UKIP is very very worrying.
Its reminiscent of Germany in the 1930's, of course I expect UKIP supporters to take issue with this, they would wouldnt they.
But Uber right wing outfits always start out like this....giving the appearance of respectability, then who knows......

Mr Farage,-Adolf Hitler, being a EU citizen you can travel across Europe without a passport and without being stopped at borders. Travel for shopping, leisure or business from one country to another will be cheap because there is no money exchange and no commission paid. So basically any EU citizen can live ,work and retire in any EU member state if they wish so.

Mr Farage,-Adolf Hitler you must understand that the European Union (EU) has 27 democratic countries, working together for the benefit of all their citizens. So the EU came up with the idea of using practical achievements and to create a sense of common progress between member states.

Mr Farage,-Adolf Hitler please be aware that a millions of people come in from Europe, but a millions British people have gone into Europe.

Mr Farage,-Adolf Hitler, it is very important to understand that the EU has banned discrimination. The EU believes our society is fairer and more efficient when we do not discriminate over race, religion, nationality, gender or any other factors.

iT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE RED V THE BLUE BUT IF THIS POLL IS CORRECT THEN WHO IS TO SAY THAT UKIP COULD BE THE MAKING OF A COALITION,I WOULD GIVE AN ARM AND A LEG TO BE THE FLY ON THE WALL IN THAT DISSCUSSION AND TO FIND OUT WHAT UKIP WOULD WANT FROM THE OTHER PARTIES IN RETURN FOR MAKING ANOTHER COALITION.

This is the political landscape is dangerous . labour could return by default / we will end up with a patched up bunch with far differing ideas never able to agree on anything .
I long to return to the England I grew up in .

So can't wait for the next election.....

I think at some point Uk people will give up on all of the so-called big parties because of frustration at lack of direction and leadership which can't be related to. Lib Dems are first to drop, think the Tories will be next.

The Liberal Democrats DESERVE their FALL. They LIED to the UK public regarding their support to keep tuition fees low. They TRIPLED the fees and then had the gall to try and SPIN this as some sort of "good deal" for the Nations Students. Their arrogance, their lies and their desire for Power ALL combined to make them laughing stocks. They DESERVE contempt. Good Riddance.
01:53 PM on 04/17/2012
Absolutely right. They will either sink or swim by their decisions, or at least their part in these decisions with the Tories. They lied and they are being held accountable.

They had their chance, they didn't have courage and let the tories push them around to abuse the poor elderly and disabled. If they had spines this wouldn't have happened.

"The UK Independence Party has overtaken the LibDems"
Has Nigel writing ad-libs about cats and asylum seekers for Teresa paid off? Or it it the promise of that real democracy...Oh, whatsitsname, thingy, referendum!

"the anti-EU party has increased its support to 9%"
Isn’t this all a bit like perusing odds at the National? Unless the race is over its as productive as flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality.

"rising only once to level pegging with Nick Clegg's party."
Coinciding with Nigel’s appearance on Have I got News For You, perhaps. When an unusual willingness (in a politician), to partake in self deprecation became evident.

"only seven of 57 LibDems would survive as MPs in a general election"
Even less a GCHQ coup.

Not really suprised... please. Even tho I don't support UKIP.

We have had a two-horse democracy in this country for too long. Red displaces Blue, rinse and repeat.

Enough.

See, Nick, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I sentence Nick Clegg to watch the entire series of The West Wing, or at least series one and two, to see what a political leader looks like.

Like the LibDems, the West Wing is a work of fiction
