Rihanna and Liam Neeson's 'Battleship' Sinks 'Titanic 3D' At UK Box Office

'Battleship' Beats 'Titanic' At Box Office

Liam Neeson and Rihanna's new Battleship blockbuster has sailed to the top of the UK box office, sinking Titanic 3D.

Battleship made waves during its debut weekend, hauling £3.7m in ticket sales and leaving James Cameron's disaster epic trailing in its wake with £1.8m. The 3D re-release slips to second place.

Cameron won't be too upset, however - the film has cruised past the $2b mark in overall ticket sales. Only one other film has achieved greater monetary success - Cameron's 2009 blockbuster Avatar, which earned a total of $2.8b.

Horror movie The Cabin in the Woods was close behind with £1.6m, while The Hunger Games drops two places to fourth.

Rounding out the top five is animated children's movie The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists, which sailed away with takings of £1.4m.
