TIME Magazine: Pippa And Kate Middleton, Adele, Rihanna, Tilda Swinton And Peter Cashmore Among 100 Most Influential People

Huffington Post UK  |  By Posted: 19/04/2012 08:53 Updated: 19/04/2012 09:57

She has been hogging the headlines recently for her escapades in Paris, and Pippa Middleton’s popularity shows no sign of abating after she was named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential people.

Prince William’s sister-in-law, her famous bottom AND her royal sister Kate all made it onto the list. Wills however, has been muscled out of the picture entirely.

TIME gushes: "The Middletons have become avatars of aspiration. Other women aim to dress like them, to emulate their easy athleticism and their more problematic slenderness.

"How do the sisters feel about their influence? They aren't saying. Latter-day Mona Lisas, they smile mysteriously and keep their mouths closed. In an age of bleating, tweeting, confessional celebrity, the middle-class Middletons show real class."

Further Brits who have landed a spot on the acclaimed list include Adele, Tilda Swinton, Peter Cashmore, although notably absent was Prime Minister David Cameron.

In order to qualify for the list, candidates must “inspire us, entertain us, challenge us and change our world”.

TIME adds: “Meet the breakouts, pioneers, moguls , leaders and icons who make up this year’s TIME 100.”

Seriously, it's time.

Well, that just goes to show that Time must be calculating `influence' using the measure of column inches per unit relevance.

After the decision, what the whole world will get - some friends asked me. I said, "Time magazine and newspapers will get something to write for couple of days. After that if she could catalyze her social activities, then we will get something, if not just she and media will be benefited"

Influential? In totally the wrong manner yes. They should call this list: '100 Most Influential Sheep Herder's'

At this point I think it is time to cancel my annual sub with them.Even their ads seem to be more interesting than their ' news stories'.

Time magazine's lists have always been laughable, they are the equivalent of nice Mr Obama receiving the Nobel peace prize by star struck Scandinavians, surely Simon Cowell and David Beckham (whatever you think of them) are more influential in world terms, actually the list of truly influential Brits is rather long, Ms Middleton (nothing against her) would be somewhere near the bottom.

Typical ignorance from the right wing. Nothing is relevant if it doesn't fit into your narrow world view (which I'm guessing from the examples of more people more deserving of this honour, is basically sports and reality television). Women can't be inspired by other prominent women right?

So ... uh ... what does she do -- exactly -- to warrant this new-found influence?

Anyone who can be inspired by Waitey Katie and Tag Along Sister needs their head examined !

I give up. What did Pippa Middleton do? Is she the British Paris Hilton or something like that?
13:48 on 19/04/2012
Good Lord no ! at least Hilton has done something on her own account !

Please don't blame the young lady ... the media chose her. I actually feel sorry for her.

Pippa has indeed had fame thrust upon her and appears to be fighting it off with a gun, or at least a "friend's" gun. The Middletons don't strike me as a family that needs or aspires to pity. "Influence" can of course be negative.
