This is the electric moment a lightning strike lit up Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.

Seven highly charged forks hit the lake in Illinois causing jets of bright light to dazzle and sparkle off the water.

Drivers on Lake Shore Drive - known locally as LSD - could be forgiven for thinking they were on some sort of psychedelic drug as the natural light show took place.

An estimated 24,000 people are killed by lightning strikes globally.

Lake Shore Drive (colloquially referred to as LSD or the Outer Drive or The Drive) is a mostly freeway-standard expressway running parallel with and alongside the shoreline of Lake Michigan through Chicago, Illinois, USA. Except for the portion north of Foster Avenue (5200 North), Lake Shore Drive is designated as part of U.S. Highway 41.
