Thomas Beatie, the trangender father dubbed " the pregnant man" has split from his wife of nine years.

Beatie announced he has split from wife Nancy during filming for The Doctors.

The 38-year-old admitted: "Like all marriages, we have our ups and downs, and we’re going through a rough patch right now. At the moment, we’re separated."

Beatie, who recently underwent his final round of gender-reassignment surgery, said his wife has not yet seen his new genitals, People Magazine reports.

He said: "Nancy hasn't seen the new me yet."

Beatie, bearded and breastless, happily showed off his bulging belly to the press during his three pregnancies.

The former model, who spent the first two decades of his life as Tracy Lagondin, had retained his female reproductive organs despite being legally declared a man in 2002.

During an earlier appearance on The Doctors, Beatie described the strain he suffered while trying to conceive and discussed his plans to have a hysterectomy.

When he was first pregnant, Beatie told the media: "Despite the fact that my belly is growing with a new life inside me, I am stable and confident being the man that I am."

As a general rule, I'm ashamed to be from the U.S.

Based on some of the hateful and ignorant comments here, I'd be ashamed to be from the U.K., too.

I am a liberalist. I very much believe in the "live and let live" philosophy. That said there are very few people in this world of ours that don't have parameters outwith of which they find things alien and unacceptable to their moral codes, their way of life, their beliefs, or their understanding of right and wrong. I am no different. I can understand and sympathise with the transgender issue. What I have difficulty with is the ad lib switching between genders. True transgenders find the idea of living with their "born gender" really difficult and do everything possible to alienate themselves from it. Most FtoM transgenders wouldn't dream of reversing the process part way through, to bear children, when the idea of being a woman in the first place was so abhorrent to them that they undergo surgery to change gender. That, coupled to the publicity campaign, the effect this will all have on the children as they grow up, the dissolution of the relationship and the post natal completion of the transgender process all adds up to what people find unnatural and disturbing. Nature sometimes makes mistakes and I do not begrudge people trying to rectify those mistakes with the help of medical science but there are limits to what I find acceptable. This "tooing and frooing" between the genders on an ad lib basis transcends those limits in my opinion. It makes a mockery of the of life. I am not ashamed to be from the UK.

In need of getting a life. Live and let live, Thomas Beatie doesn´t bother you, you shouldn bother him, or his wife or children with your ideas. You´re free to live you´re life as you want as long as you dont hurt others, let the Beaties do the same.

Men cannot be pregnant. Full stop. Impossible.
He might have been legally classed a man now, but biologically started out as a woman.
His outside sexual characteristics were altered to male, but inside it still still does not make him 'a man'. Legally, a man that's pregnant, biologically, as nature intended it, a woman that's pregnant.

"Stable"? He/she must be the most unstable person on Earth.
The piece above fails to inform us of the most important point....... who has custody of the children? The mother or the errrrrr mother?
11:25 PM on 04/25/2012
So you think a man who was born in a womans body must me unstable, just because he wanted kids? Or just because he took the decision to carrý them himself, when his wife couldn´t?

According to what shrink is it a sign of the person being unstable to have a strong desire for kids? Your just ignorant.

This seems a bit odd....whilst trying to understand the complexities of transgender couples, why was it the "man" who fell pregnant and had the children? It seems that he was not entirely happy with his apparent masculinity.
11:31 PM on 04/25/2012
It´s nothing strange about that, and it´s all there for people who can read. His wife had had an hysterectomy (her uterus was remowed) beacuse of medical reasons.

Thas was teh only way for them to get children. People are able to face quite a lot to get children, ask any couple trying desperatly trying to becoming pregnant.

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO ACCEPT WHAT IS RIGHT!!!.I basically don't care about what people do but this is a farce ...this woman is a partial sex change...whats wrong with that...but she was not born a man... she still has her sexual organs of that of a female with the exclusion of her breasts and has grown a moustache...how she is being described as a man is beyond all description. and very confusing to children including her own...what I would like to say to her is stop it and accept what you are ...the sooner you accept... the sooner you will be happier in yourself and the children will see a different you too...why all the publicity...spare your children from the whole ordeal of this its not right and you know it...you have had your 15mins of fame now its time to relax and be a parent..help your children throught this what will probably turn out ot be a nightmare for them in the future...if you have conceived and given birth to these children how the hell can you be a man???...don't be silly..
11:33 PM on 04/25/2012
Well, it must be the state who is "silly". Since he´s a man according to USA. Maybe you should adress them instead?
06:52 AM on 04/21/2012
Feel sorry for those kids, their now father was once their mother.... how will they reconcile that one in their heads?

A shame they split - now the children have only one parent. Many people manage fine to bring up their children without the support of a partner, though I feel her children will have additional burdens to cope with as they mature. Society can be very judgemental still about transgender choices, and short of an unlikely miraculous change in social attitudes their future may be uncertain in some ways. I hope I'm wrong.
11:36 PM on 04/25/2012
How come you´re so sure the children will lose on of the parents? Is that what has to happened according to US law or what? (I´m not US citizen, so I`m just curious, thats not what normally happens in my country.)

The report says the couple have split - the family is now a one parent family. They also face teasing, even bullying at school because of their unusual parentage. Social attitudes to the transgendered in the UK are not invariably compassionate.

But don't doctors help infertile men and all that IVF's stuff is also god's creation. all those babies with life threatening diseases we abort each year. that's a doctor's work too. Just how many childless couples have prayed for god's help only to get a baby from a doctor's tube. And they even thank god after that. The irony .

Apparently we're overpopulated & there are people starving in the world. The irony.
