Cameron Osborne Economy Poll
Cameron And Osborne's Poll Ratings Have Slipped Dramatically Since Last Months' Budget

David Cameron and George Osborne's reputation for economic competence has taken a major hit in the wake of the Budget, according to a poll.

The Prime Minister and Chancellor enjoyed a net 24 point advantage over Labour counterparts Ed Miliband and Ed Balls before the financial package.

But research by ComRes for the Independent on Sunday and Sunday Mirror suggests that has now been slashed to just four. Overall the poll put Labour on 40%, ahead of the Tories on 34% and Liberal Democrats on 11%.

Some 25% said they trusted Mr Cameron and Mr Osborne to make the right decisions on the economy, while 54% did not. The net score of -29 was down from -20 before the Budget last month.

The ratings for Mr Miliband and Mr Ball, on the other hand, have improved from -44 to -33 this month.

Just over a quarter of those quizzed said the Budget measures were generally fair, compared to 54% who thought the opposite. Older voters were said to be most critical, indicating that the 'granny tax' row has harmed the Conservatives.

The researchers also asked whether the coalition had changed Britain for the better over the past two years, with a fifth saying the country had improved and 47% insisting it had got worse.

The poll comes as George Osborne faces fierce criticism from some of his own Tory backbenchers, after he loaned a further £10bn to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The level of lending is such that he doesn't need to seek approval from Parliament, under the terms of a vote passed in the Commons last year.

The government is fighting a losing battle, any hopes of a recovery are being strangled by debt.
It would be viewed by some as poetic justice if Labour was re-elected to sort out the problems they caused, but I don't think it would be a wise choice. They are likely to unhinge a precarious situation and propel us into disaster. What to do?

If the current Coalition Muppet's running this Country CANNOT sort anything out, then you will have to Question why they bothered to seek to be returned to Parliament at the last General Election.
For, by the time of the NEXT General Election we would have had 5 Year's of Plan - "A", with the Letter "A" standing for "Austerity".

The coalition government are a result of no party being returned as a majority two years ago. You may remember that the Lib Dems first went to have a look at getting into bed with Labour and then decided that their best chance of getting into power was with the Tories.

The truth of the matter is that Labour ran up the biggest government debt in history and any party in power will be faced with the same depressing prospects of austerity measures as the coalition government is forced to sort out Labour's debt. Even Labour have said that they would not reverse the government's cuts if they got back into power. Debt is slowly strangling any attempt at recovery and any government will be faced with exactly the same scenario, no matter who they are.

All hopes of recovery are being strangled by Osborne's doctrinaire, indiscriminate, stupid slashing. Yes, the public deficit needed to be managed down over time -- but not by slashing public expenditure prematurely and disproportionately, perpetuating the Great Recession and making the deficit worse, not better.

This is just a replay of the disastrous stupidity of President Hoover after the Great Crash of 1929.

Labour certainly could not do worse.

I would say their reputation is growing ! the biggest pair of W.........rs in british political history

What can we really expect from those Con's including Camoron, and Gideon's etc; - whom's Parents have made personal fortunes in there £££Million's, and £££Billion's from evading British Income - Tax, by storing up Mountains of Cash in Off - Shore Accounts over many, many Years past.
And also very much indeed, in today's Big Brother Society, we are NOT all in it together, with the UK's top 1% of Inheritors

You have conveniently ignored the fact that Millipede, Harriet Harman, Ed Balls/Yvette Cooper, Baroness Scotland, Liam Byrne and Shaun Woodward are all shadow cabinet millionaires.
00:54 on 23/04/2012
On the contrary MM, I'am don't dispute your Fact's, but then again as I keep telling many Tory Voter's, - The Labour Party are currently NOT in Office, therefore the way we ALL are being repeatedly told that "We are ALL in this Together", is hollow Words, by an hollow Multi - Millionaire Jet - Set Elite Con lead Coalition Administration, that is ruining what is left of UK Society as a whole.

Cut, cuts and more cuts. Do they care about ratings. I think not. What I do find an insult is that Osbourne has just given £10 billion of tax-payers money to the IMF to help prop up other countries who may need bailing out whilst reducing the top level of tax here for the rich and taxing the less fortunate even more.
18:24 on 22/04/2012
How surprising!! Your having a laugh if you think its the budget is harming their reputation. What about immigration,Membership of the EU (referendum) and the foreign aid giveaway? They have managed in their short term to surpass all the previous governments failures, can anyone tell me what they have achieved or delivered from their election manefesto? All I can see is lies and broken promises. Davy boy and his cronies ,lid dems not included as their irrellevent will not last till 2015.

A PAIR OF DISSAPOINTING PLONKERS!!!!
Up against probably the most miserable opposition ever they are hanging in with the most pathetic losers in the Lib Dems and not making any conservative headway!!!!!!
As a conservative voter I need to look elsewhere and hope the UKIP or some other independent comes through at the next election!!!!

Why did anyone think this pair of silly little schoolboys were anything but a catastrophy?
17:29 on 22/04/2012
Because the world had seen enough of Murdoch-backed Blair and gold-selling Brown!
20:09 on 22/04/2012
You forget then who backed Cameron, no one as become PM for decades wihout is backing.
15:15 on 22/04/2012
As much as I hate the this government I still would not vote labour for the damage they have to this country. I would like to see UKIP given a chance to have a go at running the country because Labours policies are basically the same as the Tories . Fact is there is far to many people in this country and its causing real problems in are society.

Carry on living in hopes. Alan, and good lucvk to you mate.

Fact is, no-one's going to vote for one issue parties like UKIP and Respect unless it's a by election. Come the real thing, people opt for a party that's a broad coalition of interest - and UKIP ain't that. It appeals to a particular demographic over a particular issue. That's it's biggest drawback.
18:28 on 22/04/2012
the only thing UKIP has in its favour is the one issue they are standing on is a mighty one...and that is the EU issue I will vote for UKIP on that one issue, asI believe that the EU issue can topple any main stream party....and rightly so as we have not had the promise of a vote on it from any of them.
19:08 on 22/04/2012
I think you will find in the coming weeks that some Tory MP's will be defecting and going to UKIP . The coalition are serving themselves and not the people. When a government starts taking food from hard working ordinary peoples tables and gives Billions of pounds of tax payers money away to other countries and still makes cuts do you really think the Tories would be given a second chance ? I think not.
17:08 on 22/04/2012
Quite right and well said!!
18:31 on 22/04/2012
Quite wrong .I will be voting UKIP next time, this Country is set to explode very soon.
14:19 on 22/04/2012
This is no surprise. The ONLY reason this Coalition of losers are in power is because of Labour's stubborn refusal to jettison Brown. Once Milliband took control of Labour there numbers have been climbing by the day...and Ed's NOT that powerful an opponent..imagine IF Labour HAD a powerful Leader, the lead would be even greater. Lib Dems are finished for this generation unless they dump Clegg and beg the Public's forgiveness for going against everything anyone EVER supported them for..and the Tory's well, ...they are history...again....soon.

Bearing in mind that European Governments have atendency to all swing together when they swing, if Hollande wins in France, or pushes Zarkozy to the rail, poor old dodgy Dave will break out into another tantrum. My sympathies are with the No 10 cat, which must be having a terrible life, kicked from pillar to post.
