Robin Gibb's Doctor Admits He Is 'Stunned'

Cancer-stricken Bee Gees star Robin Gibb has stunned his doctor with his "iron will" and "deep reserves of physical strength" after defying the odds to wake up from a 12-day coma.

The How Deep Is Your Love singer has been fighting for his life in a London hospital after developing pneumonia and falling unconscious, just weeks after announcing his colon and liver cancer had gone into remission.

On Friday, his wife Dwina revealed her husband had awoken from the coma and was making a miraculous recovery - and even his doctor can't believe it.

Dr. Andrew Thillainayagam admits he had warned Gibb's family on Thursday that he may never regain consciousness, but the singer is now awake and able to speak.

He says, "It is testament to Robin's extraordinary courage, iron will and deep reserves of physical strength that he has overcome quite incredible odds to get where he is now."

However, Dr. Thillainayagam admits the 62 year old remains in a fragile state, revealing he is "exhausted, extremely weak and malnourished".

Gibb, who is still being treated in the intensive care unit, is breathing with the help of an oxygen mask and being fed intravenously.

This weekend, the veteran singer's son Robin-John told Britain's Sunday Express that his dad was aiming to overcome his ill health in time to attend the unveiling of his World War II memorial in London at the end of June.
