Nadine Dorries: David Cameron And George Osborne Are 'Arrogant Posh Boys'

Posted: 23/04/2012 12:17 Updated: 23/04/2012 14:43

David Cameron and George Osborne are "arrogant posh boys" who do not understand the lives of ordinary people, according to Tory MP Nadine Dorries.

Speaking on the BBC's Daily Politics programme on Monday, the MP for Mid-Bedfordshire was asked if she thought the prime minister and chancellor were out of touch with voters.

"Unfortunately I think that not are only Cameron and Osborne two posh boys who don't understand the price of milk," she said. "They are two arrogant posh boys who show no remorse, no contrition and no passion to want to understand the lives of others - and that is their real crime."

Dorries, who is no fan of the coalition, said there was a "very tight narrow clique of a certain group of people and what they do is act as a barrier and prevent Cameron and Osborne really understanding what is happening in the rest of the country."

While it is not unusual for Dorries to attack her party's leadership, the comments will be met with glee by the Labour Party who have recently stepped up their attacks on the prime minister for being "out of touch".

Last month former Conservative leadership candidate David Davis also warned that the government risked looking like "toffs" who did not understand ordinary people.

"The truth of the matter is they look at the frontbench, they see them all very well dressed, well turned out, well fed and perhaps feel that they are in a different world to them," Davis said.

Next general election she could be the only Tory left with a seat. There must be millions of people who voted for this sorry lot hoping they would be better than Labour but the British public must feel very let down. Cameron and Osborne can keep their heads in the sand and pretend they haven't noticed but most of the people of this country are very sorry they voted for them. They have lost the peoples confidence so quickly it is hard to believe

At a time more than ever in the last 20/30 years we need people who really understand
just how difficult it is for ordinary people to make ends meet, and fight our corner accordingly.
We have not got these people.

Arrogant they might be - but in the past we had the arrogance dirty old Prescott, wealthy lawyer Blair (and his wife), psychologically damaged in-denial Gordon Brown, Straw (the Home Secretary whose whole life was spent in politics)... Arrogance? It's par for the course..

You are quite correct, politics, like journalism is a dirty job, or to quote Robert Burns : "Sic a parcel of rogues in a nation".
08:50 on 25/04/2012
It does depend on the TYPE of journalism, Hester, but I don't suppose any journalist who consistently fails to produce stories gets very far - rather like the politician who doesn't cut corners to get things done.

(It's interesting that someone like Vince Cable, for whom I have a high regard, was on the receiving end of such a lot of stick recently but now appears to have been acting honourably..)

Sorry..CATHERINE - Ian unintentional slip.

It is nice to know that there are MPs out there who do realise how the other half live.

What not many people know is that Wannabe Thatcher e mailed his head of transport and told him/her to get rid of the people who at the time were providing ministerial drivers so that he could get his cousin's Company's foot in the door. It's not what you know is it?! And does he care about the ordinary people he put on the dole that day? Not a jot!

Help!! I find myself agreeing with Nadine Dorries!!!
10:11 on 24/04/2012
Tories...Posh? Always on the side of the rich? This isn't new! They've always been the landowner, the gentry, the mill owner and the stinking rich for well over 200 years! Lord Liverpool to Cameron...It hasn't changed!
16:47 on 24/04/2012
You seem to have rolled the Tories and Whigs into one..Better dust off the history books..
18:56 on 24/04/2012
Not entirely sure what your logic/point is here? The Whigs were a "liberal" party which stood for the rights of the middle class. True they were Lords and Earls with plenty of money but they became politically extinct as a party in 1868. Merging with the Liberals and Peelite Tories. The Tories are still with us.....and have never changed their political ideals!

Seems to me that at long last the back benchers are finding some spirit, last night we had MP 'Bone?' saying the Gov' were out of touch and now this brave Lady..... well done to them but where are the rest?
Infighting could bring this Gov' down.

These conjoined twins are pouring harm and scorn on every ordinary tax payer. There are some that don't pay tax at the rate us mere mortals do ie Amazon. Amazon uses it's tax free status to undercut other similar businesses, they should be labelled/investigated for unfair trading practices. The 'Twins' adopt this policy by allowing unprecedented harm afflict the poorest of our societies. Why are pensioners being caught shoplifting food more than ever? They die in their thousands every winter. A shame that scandalises this goverment that reduced the winter heating allowance. They are making the majority pay while the richest holiday in Mustique without any obvious harm to their bank balances. Yes, I would shout for joy at winning the Euromillions lottery & I would be the first one on the plane to Switzerland or Luxumbourg to open an account & buy a certificate of residence. Not because I want to but because it makes financial sense. I would buy my local hospital a child's respirator & the heart unit the capability to perform angioplasty, instead of heart patients having a blue light drive twelve miles away to a hopsital that does angioplasty as routine. Winning would not remove my dispute against these two, my argument would be that I have lived long enough under successive regimes & suffered from their bad practices, their abuse of the poor & of the office they hold. What I won't do is buy a peerage or knighthood.

Its okay saying it at the TV or the PC or down the local Pub but she is doing something and raising it in the commons and yes I know we all know this already about these two a/holes but its good to see her saying it in public in the house loud and clear. The more that is said the more wind she deflates from there sails, the more acid that rises in the pit of there stomaches. Good on her

Put it this way I won't be celebrating the sixtieth. LOL! If this one gets on, I got passed the processed bit.

Known as 'Mad Nad' this lady is a loose cannon who didn't come out of the MP's expenses scandal too well. She's part of an anti Bercow group trying to get him sacked although I don't blame her for that. Accused of cheating on a tv reality programme and said of one of her twitter comments"My blog is 70% fiction and 30% fact."
So, easy to criticise and ridicule but she couldn't be more accurate about her comments on these two.
There is evidence now of these two's ineptitude and their right winged mission in politics. There is clear evidence of a background of wealth, elite circles and influence and they are the last people to whom government power should be given if you want the government to represent a wide spectrum of electorate.
Propped up by Clegg (same background) and a stitched 5 year term their radical approaches to the NHS, Royal Mail, taxation, pensions, education , policing and much more cannot be stopped.
Only the LibDems could bring this to a halt and they haven't the courage to take on their leaders and demand a pull out of this ridiculous coalisition. The electorate can't wait to give payback to them.
Where are the silent Simon Hughes and Alan Beith? Bring this sham down and you would be overwhelmed with public support, but have they got the bottle?

glnntex'...How right you are' a point I've made many times'..Surely the Libdumbs' know they are un-electable now'..All it would take is one or two of the spineless lot' to cross the floor'..It wouldn't be long before most of em followed eh?..But as you quite rightly said'..Have they got the courage of their so-called convictions?..But Nadine Dorries' is already telling us what we already know'..So if she feels so strongly'...Why doesn't she cross the floor with them?
