Politicians are the least trusted profession in the UK, being more distrusted than bankers, estate agents and premiership footballers, according to a new poll.

A survey conducted by YouGov for RatedPeople.com, assessed a range of professions on four criteria: value for money, honesty, reliability and quality of work.

The vast majority of people said politicians were poor or very poor for reliability (62%), honesty (70%) and overall quality of work (57%).

The only positive news for politicians is they were not rated the worst in value for money, as they were beaten by premiership footballers. 76% said footballers were poor or very poor value for money, while only 60% said the same for politicians.

The UK’s most trusted professionals are as follows:

1. Teachers

2. Gardeners

3. Electricians

4. Plumbers

5. Roofers

6. Builders

7. Bankers

8. Estate Agents

9. Premiership Footballers

10. Politicians
