Jessie J 'Facing Axe From The Voice'

She may be a hit in the pop charts, but Jessie J is reportedly facing the axe from her TV career after calling The Voice "lame".

The Price Tag hitmaker infuriated executives of the BBC talent contest with her comments during a recording of The Graham Norton Show and they are now considering whether or not she should rejoin the panel for a second season.

The Mirror reports Jessie has also turned up late to recordings, a move which could jeopardise her place alongside Sir Tom Jones, will.i.am and Danny O'Donoghue on the show, which has lost millions of viewers since its debut.

A source tells the newspaper: "Many of the show's most senior staff are angry that Jessie criticised the show's production values so publicly. She is paid a huge amount of money to be a big part of the show, and should be one of the show's most vocal supporters.

"It has had a huge impact on what many of the show's staff think about her. Obviously the dip in viewers means producers need to speak frankly with all members of the team, but with Jessie there's not really any point. You can't tell her anything.

"Nobody really has much control over Jessie J or will.i.am. They're a law unto themselves. With Jessie in particular, the staff are becoming frustrated that she is so unapproachable.

"She turns up with a legion of minders, assistants and hangers on and is sometimes late, too. It's like an audience with the Queen - although Her Majesty's timekeeping is probably better."

In a bid to boost ratings and beat ITV rival Britain's Got Talent, BBC bosses have reportedly roped in Kylie Minogue and Cheryl Cole to appear in upcoming shows.

The insider adds: "We've just signed Kylie this week and Cheryl is going to perform her new single in a massive exclusive for the show. We are also contacting a number of other huge stars, such as singer Adele, to add more quality to the show.

"ITV have already shown it's dog-eat-dog by moving Britain's Got Talent around the schedules aggressively, so we have got to hit back as hard as we possibly can."

This week's contestants in action - which one of them do you think is The Voice?

Sadly a lot of bad taste comments around here esp about Jessie..
Clearly they've not done any research..plus she gets massive credit from other mainstream

Show us the quote where Jessie J said, "The Voice is lame".

Obviously you can't because she never said it.

So true, here's the actual quote in context (from another article on this site as well, oh dear)

Jessie admits she was unhappy with her image throughout the blind auditions because she was seen wearing the same outfits in every episode.

She said: "It was lame and not thought through. It was so they could edit it."

So she was really complaining about her wardrobe, mountain out of a molehill or what?

Also, way to go to the 'source', well done for slagging off one of the big name draws for the show, if they genuinely work at the bbc then they should be sacked for being so unprofessional.

The ratings drop may be temporary. It was a bank holiday weekend here in the UK. Most families hopefully were not watching the telly but busy with family life.
I love the voice. The singers have been pretty good so far with no gimmicks.
The judges are a mixed professional bag of people. The set up is different, modern and entertaining. I love Sir Tom what an icon. Jessie is lovely. This show is not about how nasty or bitchy they are, they are professional successful entertainers. Yes the public are a bit perverse and seem to want nastiness etc. I will continue to watch the voice and BGT its entertainment and hope Jessie stays.

One reason ratings may drop: The auditions are always the most exciting part of any show.

The only way to keep ratings is for some kind of dramatic buildup. Other talent elimination formats might be able to sustain the drama longer.

On the voice, the singers all start out great, and most don't really have room to get better within the scope of the show.

Probably a lot of viewers already knew who they were for, and didn't care about any other acts but their favorites.

If I were in the UK, and was following the Voice on TV, after the blind auditions, I would have tuned in to listen to Joelle, Jaz, Ruth Brown, but that's about it. I'm not a girl or young, so I'm not going to get into Taylor or David or Hannah, even if I think they are good singers.

My guess is many Voice viewers start viewing quite selectively after the "blinds."

So, I think it's a format issue. Neither Jessie J. nor will.i.am are the show's problems. I don't follow either, but I've enjoyed them on the Voice.

BBC, don't throw out the baby with the bath water. I'm a Yank currently working in the Middle East. I watch The Voice UK via YouTube clips. It is clear to me that both Jessie J. (who I never heard of before) and will.i.am (who I have heard of, but I don't follow the Peas) are in fact big draws for The Voice UK. They both have big personalities that draw people, and their chemistry with Sir Tom and Danny seems very good.

The show is for the most part very entertaining as well.

Maybe instead of throwing a snit, and biting off your own noses to spite yourselves, you might want to listen to what Jessie doesn't like about the show. She does seem to be a successful performer, so maybe she might know something you could learn from.

And it's not too bright to assume that Jessie's comments correlate to dropping ratings.

I don't mind Kylie Minogue and Cheryl Cole. From other shows, they seem nice enough. But they are not going to be as interesting as Jessie and Will.

"Oh dear - ratings are dropping, we need some publicity to get people interested again."

Smell familiar?

Although a grandmother I liked Jessie J and my 6 year old grandaughter is a huge fan. However I am going off her as is my daughter by her bitchy comments on other peoples acts its not what she says its how she says it. Drop her and get someone with a voice. Look at Sir Tom he is coureous hardworking with his acts and the most experienced of all. What about Katherine Jenkins although she is classically trained she is charming knws her stuff whether its pop or classical

lets have Russell (the voice) Watson on next series, he is class, and will help the show grab a more loyal following.

"A source tells the newspaper" LOL, that's what they base it on? I'll remember that next time "A source" says Michael Jackson isn't dead!

I've recently listened to Jessie J's album and it was a load of screeching and wailing really with the odd song being mediocre,I'm sorry just because she's popular doesn't make you good,so why on earth did they choose her as a judge in the first place,it put me off attending the auditions when she was announced as one of the judges,at least there is some talent on the judging in this show Sir Tom Jones, all the rest including Will i am are all nothings compared to him, lets face it folks Will i am and the black eyed peas would have got nowhere if Fergie wasn't in the group just another boring rapper, snore snore.
02:09 AM on 05/09/2012
I think you're right about popularity not necessarily making you good, but it does sometimes. In Jessie J's case I think it's more to do with her being good at song writing, producing as well as singing that makes her popular, so conclusively, good = popular = success = loads of money :-)
02:12 AM on 05/09/2012
Also meant to say Will I Am isn't "just a boring rapper" He's an extremely successful producer ..you should do some research on him as well as the other two you dismissed, you just make yourself look uneducated...musically speaking that is :-)
09:41 AM on 05/09/2012
And It's for this reason most of the music relased these days are ripped off cover versions of old classics, with some rapper speaking over it,will i am is one of the worst culprits i'm affraid,And please don't insult my musical intellegence to defend them because this is the sort of recycled music THEY are producing..

I wonder why The Voice UK has lost so many viewers?
1. Is it because the blind auditions and the battles were so much better than the live shows?
2. Is it the poor production, terrible dancers, judges that sound really bad when singing together?
3. Is it that the judges are holding back. Shouldn't they be more critical of the singers?
4. Is it that the live result show is pre-recorded?

Don't watch any of these so called talent shows there is too much screaming from the audience puts me right off you can't hear anything but woohooing rubbish don't watch dancing on ice and strictly for the same reason.
12:09 AM on 05/09/2012
I agree, the woohooing (as you describe it) and applause thing usually happens if they start another verse or sing a bit louder. It seems to be expected on all of these talent shows now and you would think that they had just scored a goal at Wembley. I seem to remember they used to do it on 'Stars in Their Eyes' even when the person meant to be impersonating somebody was nothing like them. It's probably kicked off by the crew or somebody placed in the audience, just to make sure!

Jessie J is a great singer and also looks great but she's still young. I thought it might be a mistake for her to do this show, as few people who appear as judges on reality shows get away with just being themselves. If they are either a bit loud and outspoken, or a bit quiet and boring, they come in for the same kind of disapproval from those who would probably belong in the same categories themselves if they ever got to appear on tv. There's a lot to be said for staying out of reach of the gossip media and just doing what you are good at, and the odd interview, but few stars seem to be able to do that any more.
